Watch: Find the OBD-II Diagnostic Port on the Chevrolet Captiva. Filmed for Service Reset.

The first-generation Chevrolet Captiva (C100, built from 2006 to 2011) uses the standard 16-pin OBD-II diagnostic connector, so a generic code reader, Bluetooth adapter or workshop scan tool will plug straight in. The port lets you read and clear fault codes, watch live engine data and check emissions readiness on this seven-seat SUV. It sits within easy reach beneath the dashboard on the driver’s side, so you can find and use it without removing trim or reaching for tools.

OBD-II Port Location

On the C100 Captiva the diagnostic socket is on the driver’s side, up under the lower edge of the dashboard and close to the bonnet release lever. Sit in the driver’s seat, look down towards the footwell near the steering column, and you will find the trapezoidal 16-pin connector facing downwards in the same area as the bonnet pull. It is not hidden behind a screwed-on cover, so once you drop your eyes below the level of the steering wheel it is straightforward to spot and reach by hand.

Before You Plug In

  • Park on level ground, apply the handbrake firmly and put the gearbox in Park or neutral before leaning into the footwell.
  • Keep a torch or phone light handy, as the lower dash is shaded and the socket faces down.
  • Turn the ignition off to connect, then switch it to the ON position with the dash lit but the engine off so the modules wake up.
  • Check your reader is a standard OBD-II tool; the Captiva communicates over CAN, which any modern scanner supports.

How to Access the Connector

  1. Open the driver’s door and slide the seat back if you need more room in the footwell.
  2. Crouch by the door sill and look up under the lower dash near the steering column and bonnet release lever.
  3. Locate the 16-pin socket facing downwards; brushing the bonnet pull aside if it sits close by makes the connector easier to see.
  4. Line your scan tool up the same way round as the port and push it home firmly before switching the tool on.

Tips for Safe Use

  • Insert and remove the plug straight, without rocking it, to protect the small pins.
  • Unplug any dongle when you are done, as a device left connected can slowly drain the 12 V battery over time.
  • Do not watch a live-data screen while driving; if you need readings on the move, have a passenger hold the tool.
  • Keep the connector clean and never force a tool that will not seat, since a bent pin can interrupt communication with the car.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the OBD-II port on a 2006-2011 Chevrolet Captiva?

It is under the dashboard on the driver’s side, near the steering column and close to the bonnet release lever, facing downwards. Look up under the lower dash from the driver’s footwell and you will find the 16-pin socket within reach.

Do I need any tools to reach the Captiva’s OBD-II socket?

No. The connector is not behind a screwed-on panel, so you only need to look under the lower dash on the driver’s side. A torch helps because the area is shaded and the socket faces down.

Will a generic OBD-II reader work on the C100 Captiva?

Yes. The 2006-2011 Captiva uses the standard 16-pin OBD-II connector and CAN communication, so any generic code reader, Bluetooth adapter or workshop scan tool that supports OBD-II will connect and read its systems.

Is the OBD-II port the same on petrol and diesel Captiva models?

Yes. All C100 Captiva engines share the same standard 16-pin OBD-II connector in the same driver’s-side location. The difference is in the data available, since a diesel reports its own engine parameters, but the socket and how you access it are identical.

If a fault code appears once you are connected and you want to understand what it means before booking any work, look it up on autodtcs.com.
