A DSG-equipped Skoda Karoq (NU, 2017–present) stuck in P — usually a flat battery or shift-interlock fault — has an emergency release by the gear lever so you can move it. Everything happens in the cabin; no high-voltage or under-car work.
Secure the Car First
Set the handbrake or chock a wheel before you start — once released, the car can roll.
Releasing the Lever from P
- Apply the parking brake.
- Unclip the trim cover around the gear selector.
- Find the release tab in the opening and press it down with a slim flat screwdriver (Skoda’s tool is T30098, but a screwdriver does the same).
- With the brake pressed and ignition on, slide the lever out of ‘P’.
- Refit the cover.
Afterwards
This just lets you reposition the car — off a driveway or onto a transporter. If a flat battery caused it, deal with the battery; if it sticks with a good battery, get the interlock checked.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Karoq DSG won’t leave Park — how do I move it?
Handbrake on, unclip the lever cover, hold the release tab down with a screwdriver, and move the lever out of P.
Safe to DIY?
Yes — it’s a cabin override with no electrical risk. Just secure the car first.
Why did it lock in P?
Typically a flat 12 V battery or an interlock fault.
Do I need the genuine tool?
No — a slim flat screwdriver presses the same tab as Skoda’s T30098.
If a dead battery was the cause, see our Karoq battery guide. For a stored code, look it up on autodtcs.com.
