Set the Wiper Service Position

These instructions apply to the Kia Sorento Mk4 (MQ4) 2020-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

To change the wiper blades or lift them off the glass in winter on a Kia Sorento Mk4 (MQ4, 2020–present), the arms need to be in their service position — standing up clear of the bonnet edge. If you just switch off, they park low under the bonnet lip where you can’t reach them. Here’s how to raise them.

Why You Need the Service Position

The Sorento’s wipers park tucked below the bonnet trim. Forcing them up from there can bend an arm or crack the trim, so Kia provides a service-position mode.

How to Set the Wiper Service Position

  1. Make sure the bonnet is closed.
  2. Switch the car off (ignition off).
  3. Within about 20 seconds, hold the wiper stalk in the ‘MIST’ position (push it up toward the single-wipe) for about 2 seconds.
  4. Release — the wipers move up to the service position.
  5. Lift the arms away from the glass to change the blades or clear snow.

Returning Them to Park

Fold the arms back onto the glass, then switch the ignition on and operate the wipers once — they return to the normal parked position.

If the Wipers Won’t Lift

  • You missed the 20-second window — switch off and try again promptly.
  • Hold the MIST position a full 2 seconds — a quick flick just does a single wipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I put the Kia Sorento wipers in service position?

Switch off, then within 20 seconds hold the wiper stalk in MIST for ~2 seconds; the arms rise to the service position.

Why won’t my wipers move up to be changed?

They park under the bonnet lip on purpose. Use the service-position mode rather than forcing them.

How do I get them back down?

Fold them onto the glass, switch the ignition on and run the wipers once.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done with the wiper stalk only.
