Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Renault Arkana (XJL, 2021–present) is a straightforward engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection on both the mild-hybrid and full-hybrid versions.
Where the Battery Is
The 12 V battery sits in the engine bay, under a cover. The TCe mild-hybrid (mHEV) uses a 12 V belt-starter-generator system — it’s all 12 V, with no orange high-voltage cabling. The E-Tech full hybrid does have a high-voltage system — never touch the orange components; this guide is for the 12 V battery only.
Disconnecting
- Switch the ignition off, keep the keycard out of range and wait a minute for the electronics to sleep.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first and tuck the lead aside.
- If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+) next, then the clamp.
Reconnecting
- Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last.
- Reset the clock/date; the EASY LINK screen reloads on its own.
- Stop & Start may sit out for a drive or two while the battery monitor relearns — normal.
- If a tyre-pressure warning appears, re-learn the pressures — see our Arkana TPMS guide.
A like-for-like battery doesn’t need coding on the Arkana.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which terminal first on the Arkana?
The negative (−) first, and reconnect it last.
Is it safe on the hybrid Arkana?
Yes, for the engine-bay 12 V battery. On the E-Tech full hybrid, keep clear of the orange high-voltage system.
Does the battery need coding?
No — a matching replacement just goes in.
Why is Stop & Start lazy after this?
The battery-charge monitor needs a few drives to relearn; it returns to normal.
For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the service reminder, see our Arkana service reset.
