When the service / spanner reminder shows on your DS 7 Crossback (2017–present), you can clear it yourself after an oil change with the car’s reset button — no dealer and no diagnostic tool. It’s the standard PSA method and works the same on the petrol, diesel and E-Tense plug-in hybrid DS 7. The spanner is a maintenance reminder counting down to the next service, not a fault light — it turns on because the service interval has run out, not because something is wrong.

What the Spanner Reminder Means

The DS 7 shows the spanner symbol as the service interval approaches and again once it is due. As you get close, the cluster typically displays a countdown — a distance or number of days remaining — before the spanner settles on to prompt you to book the work. It is tied to the scheduled oil/maintenance service, so it is telling you the next service is due rather than reporting a mechanical problem. On some cars the reminder shows briefly at start-up for a few seconds and then clears on its own until the interval actually runs out.

The button-and-ignition reset below is the long-standing PSA-group method and is common across the DS, Peugeot and Citroën range, so it is the same across the whole DS 7 Crossback line-up — petrol, diesel and the E-Tense plug-in hybrid all use it.

Before You Start

The indicator counts down to the next oil/maintenance service, so only reset it once the work is done. You’ll use the reset button on the cluster (the trip/0.0 button) with the start/stop button.

What the service (spanner) light means on the DS 7 Crossback Mk1, and that a reset clears it after a service.

Park on level ground with the car in P and the parking brake set. Resetting before the service is done just leaves the car counting against the old interval, so change the oil (and anything else due) first. No tools are needed — the whole reset is the cluster button plus the start/stop button.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Press and hold the reset button on the instrument cluster.
  3. Still holding it, press the START/STOP button to switch the ignition on (don’t start the engine).
  4. The maintenance symbol and a countdown appear — keep holding the reset button.
  5. When the countdown reaches ‘0’, release the button; the symbol disappears.
  6. Switch the ignition off. The service indicator is reset.

If the Reminder Won’t Clear

  • Keep the reset button held the entire time — releasing early cancels it.
  • Ignition on, engine off when you press start/stop (don’t touch the brake).
  • A different warning? An oil-pressure or sensor fault stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

If the spanner is still there afterwards, the most common reason is letting go of the reset button before the countdown finishes. Switch the ignition fully off, wait a few seconds and run the sequence again, holding the button all the way until it shows ‘0’. Make sure you press START/STOP without your foot on the brake so the car goes to ignition-on and does not start the engine, which interrupts the countdown.

What to Expect After Resetting

When the countdown hits zero and you release the button, the spanner symbol goes out and the DS 7 begins a fresh service countdown. Switch off, then switch back on to confirm the reminder no longer shows at start-up. The reset clears only the maintenance reminder — if any other warning lamp was lit, it is unrelated and stays on until its own cause is dealt with.

How Often to Reset It

Reset the spanner once, after each oil/maintenance service is completed. The DS 7 service interval is reached on either distance or time, whichever comes first, so even a low-mileage car will come due on the calendar. Rather than assume a single mileage figure, follow the service schedule in your owner’s handbook and clear the reminder to match each service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a DS 7 Crossback?

Ignition off, hold the cluster reset button, press start/stop to switch on, keep holding until the countdown reaches 0, then switch off.

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No — the button sequence is the owner method.

Does it work on the E-Tense plug-in hybrid?

Yes — the reset is the same across the DS 7 Crossback range.

The light came back — why?

The reset likely didn’t complete; repeat it, holding the button until the countdown hits 0.

Which button is the reset button?

It’s the small trip/mileage button on the instrument cluster — the same one you use to zero the trip distance (the 0.0 button). Hold that one while you switch the ignition on.

Do I press the brake when I switch on?

No. Press START/STOP without the brake so the car goes to ignition-on with the engine off. Pressing the brake starts the engine (or brings up the hybrid READY state) and the countdown won’t run through to zero.
