If the key fob on your Chevrolet Aveo (T300, 2011–2015) has gone weak or the locking has become intermittent, the coin cell inside is almost certainly flat. It’s a quick swap — and if you already have two working keys, you can even register a spare yourself.
Battery First — What You Need
- A CR2032 coin cell (check the marking on the old one).
- A small flat screwdriver.
Replacing the Cell
- Remove the key cover to expose the cell.
- Renew the button cell — don’t touch the printed circuit, and observe the polarity.
- Refit the cover and check the remote locks and unlocks the car.
Programming a Spare Key Yourself
If you have two already-programmed keys, you can register a third without a tool:
- Insert the first programmed key, turn the ignition on, then off, and remove it.
- Insert the second programmed key, turn the ignition on, then off, and remove it.
- Within 10 seconds, insert the new key and turn the ignition on — the key is registered.
If you only have one key, a replacement must be ordered and coded by a dealer (up to 8 keys total).
If a Fresh Cell Doesn’t Help
- Check the polarity — an upside-down cell won’t work.
- Still intermittent? A receiver fault can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does the Chevrolet Aveo key use?
A coin cell, typically a CR2032 — confirm against the old one.
Can I program a new Aveo key myself?
Yes, if you already have two working keys — otherwise a dealer must code it.
Do I need to reprogram after a battery swap?
No — the coding is kept for a battery change.
How many keys can be programmed?
Up to 8 in total.
If the fob stopped working after a battery disconnection, see our Aveo battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
