The service reminder on your Lada Largus (R90, 2012–2024) — the Dacia Logan-based estate — is a maintenance prompt, not a fault. The instrument cluster runs a service counter that measures distance and time since the last reset, and when it reaches its limit the display reminds you that a service is due. After an oil-and-filter change the counter has to be zeroed so the countdown to the next service is correct. On the Largus this is done with a pedal sequence from the driver’s seat, the same method shared across its Dacia and Renault relatives — no diagnostic tool and no tools of any kind.

What the Service Reminder Means

The Largus uses a fixed-interval service counter rather than a system that measures the condition of the oil. It simply counts down the distance and time set for the service interval, and when that runs out it displays the reminder. Because it is a counter, it does not know whether the oil has actually been changed — it keeps showing the prompt until you reset it, and it starts a fresh countdown the moment you do.

That is why the reset is part of the service, not an optional extra. Reset without doing the work and you have simply hidden a reminder that is still genuinely due; do the work without resetting and the display keeps nagging even though the car is freshly serviced. The reminder is not a diagnostic trouble code and does not indicate a fault — it is only a scheduling tool.

Before You Start

  • Do the oil and filter change first. Resetting only clears the reminder; it changes nothing about the oil.
  • Park safely on level ground with the vehicle stationary and the handbrake applied.
  • Gearbox in neutral. The pedal sequence needs the car stationary and out of gear.
  • No tools required. The whole reset is done with the accelerator and brake pedals from the driver’s seat.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Put the gearbox in neutral and turn the ignition on.
  2. Within 10 seconds: press and hold the accelerator pedal.
  3. While holding it, press and release the brake pedal 3 times.
  4. Release both pedals at the same time — the service indicator is reset.
  5. Repeat if required.

The timing is the part people get wrong: the sequence has to begin within the short window after switching the ignition on, and the accelerator must stay pressed the whole time you tap the brake.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Keep to the 10-second window. Start pressing the accelerator within a few seconds of switching on — if you are too slow the cluster stops accepting the sequence.
  • Hold the accelerator throughout. It must stay pressed the whole time you make the three brake presses; releasing it early breaks the sequence.
  • Make the brake presses clean. Three deliberate press-and-release actions, not a single long hold.
  • Don’t start the engine. Ignition on is enough; you do not need the engine running.
  • Cycle the ignition and try again. Switch off, wait a few seconds, switch on and repeat from the top — most failed resets are just mistimed.
  • A warning that won’t clear may be a stored fault rather than the service counter — you can look the code up on autodtcs.com.

What to Expect After Resetting

When the sequence succeeds, the service reminder clears and the counter returns to a full interval, beginning its countdown again as you drive. Nothing further appears until the next interval is reached. If the prompt is still showing when you switch on again, the reset did not register and you should repeat the sequence, paying close attention to the timing.

How Often to Reset It

Reset the counter every time the oil and filter are changed. The exact interval built into your Largus depends on its engine and market, so treat the figure in your owner’s handbook as the authority rather than assuming a number. Zeroing the counter after each service keeps the on-dash reminder aligned with the schedule you are actually following.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a Lada Largus?

Neutral, ignition on, then within 10 seconds hold the accelerator and press the brake three times, releasing both pedals together.

Do I need a tool?

No — it is the pedal sequence from the driver’s seat, the same method used across its Dacia and Renault relatives.

Why won’t it reset?

Usually the timing. The sequence must start within about 10 seconds of switching on, and the accelerator has to stay held while you tap the brake three times.

Does the engine need to run?

No. The ignition should be on, but the engine stays off throughout the reset.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After. The counter measures down to the next service, so resetting before the work would leave you with a false interval.

The reminder came back — what happened?

The reset didn’t register, almost always because of mistiming. Cycle the ignition off and on and repeat the sequence within the window.

If a service-related warning stays on after the reset, it may be a stored fault rather than the maintenance counter — decode the code on autodtcs.com.
