These instructions apply to the Daewoo Lacetti (J200) 2003-2008.

After an oil change on your Daewoo Lacetti (J200, 2003–2008), the service indicator needs resetting so the reminder clears. You can do it yourself with the accelerator-pedal method — no tool needed. The little spanner (wrench) symbol you see on the instrument cluster is a maintenance reminder, not a fault warning: it simply means the car has counted down to its next scheduled service and wants your attention. Once the oil and any due maintenance are done, resetting the counter restarts the countdown to the next interval and turns the symbol off.

What the Service Light Means on the Lacetti

The Lacetti’s service reminder is a straightforward mileage-based counter rather than a condition-based oil-life monitor that measures how the car has been driven. The cluster keeps track of distance since the last reset and, when it reaches the preset service interval, lights the spanner symbol to prompt you to book the car in. Because it is a simple countdown, the light will keep appearing at each interval whether or not the oil has been changed — it is a reminder, not a measurement of oil condition — so the counter must be reset by hand once the work is done.

Sold in some markets as the Chevrolet/Holden/Suzuki version of the same car, the J200 Lacetti shares this GM-family reminder behaviour across saloon, hatchback and estate body styles. The exact service interval your car expects is set out in the maintenance schedule in your owner’s handbook, and it can differ by market and engine, so treat the handbook figure as the authority rather than any number you may have seen quoted online.

Getting Ready

  • Only reset after the oil has actually been changed (and any other due work completed) — the counter is a reminder for that service, so resetting it early hides a job that still needs doing.
  • Park on level ground with the handbrake firmly applied and the transmission in Park (automatic) or neutral (manual).
  • You need the ignition on but the engine not running. No tools, laptop or scan tool are required.
  • Have your foot ready near the accelerator, because the pedal sequence is time-limited.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.
  2. Within 5 seconds, press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times.
  3. Turn the ignition off — the service indicator is reset.

Press the pedal smoothly all the way down and let it come fully back up between presses; three complete strokes inside the five-second window are what the system is looking for. When the reset registers, the spanner symbol clears the next time you switch on.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Don’t start the engine — ignition on only. If the engine fires, the timing window is lost and you must switch off and begin again.
  • Keep within 5 seconds for the three pedal presses; if you are too slow, turn the ignition fully off, wait a moment and repeat.
  • Make sure each press is a full stroke — a half-press may not be counted.
  • Cycle the ignition completely off and on again before each fresh attempt so the counter starts the window clean.
  • A service light that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

What Happens Next

With the reset accepted, the spanner symbol disappears and the internal counter starts again from zero, counting up to the next service interval. Nothing else on the car changes — the reset only clears the maintenance reminder and does not affect the engine warning light, ABS, airbag or any other system. If a different warning symbol was lit at the same time, that one is unrelated to the service reminder and needs looking at separately.

How Often It Comes Up

Reset the indicator once after every scheduled service, straight after the oil change. Because the Lacetti uses a fixed-distance countdown, the light will return each time the car reaches its next interval — there is no need to touch it in between. For the exact mileage or time interval your car follows, check the maintenance schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than assuming a figure, as it varies by market and engine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a Daewoo Lacetti?

Ignition on (engine off), then press the accelerator 3 times within 5 seconds and switch off.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s the pedal sequence from the driver’s seat, with no scan tool or laptop needed.

Why won’t it reset?

Usually the engine was started, or the three presses weren’t within 5 seconds. Switch the ignition fully off and repeat the sequence cleanly.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — the indicator counts down to the next service, so resetting it before the work is done would clear a reminder for a job you still have to do.

Does the reset change my service interval?

No. It only restarts the counter to the same preset interval; the schedule itself is fixed in the handbook.

The spanner light came back the next day — is something wrong?

If it reappears almost immediately, the pedal sequence most likely did not register — repeat it carefully with the engine off. If it returns at full brightness together with another warning, that is a separate matter, not the service reminder.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
