The Toyota Mirai FCEV (2015–2020) is equipped with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that alerts the driver if one or more tyres lose pressure. After tyre maintenance, adjustment, or replacement, the system must be re-initialized to correctly monitor the new pressures.
When a Reset Is Required
- After checking or adjusting tyre pressures
- After replacing one or more tyres or wheels
- After rotating tyres
Manual Reset Procedure
- Park the vehicle on a level surface.
- Adjust all tyres to the manufacturer’s recommended cold inflation pressure.
- Switch the ignition ON (do not start the engine).
- Use the steering wheel or dashboard controls to scroll through the display menu.
- Navigate to the Tyre Pressure Monitoring option.
- Press and hold the ENTER button until the TPMS warning light flashes three times.
- Release the button and switch the ignition OFF.
TPMS Sensor Lifespan & Replacement
Each wheel in the Toyota Mirai is equipped with a TPMS sensor powered by a built-in lithium battery. These batteries are not replaceable and have a limited lifespan:
- Typical TPMS sensor battery life: 7–10 years
- Signs of a failing sensor include: constant TPMS warning light, “No Signal” messages, or failure to reset after tyre changes.
- When a sensor fails, it must be replaced. Replacement usually requires tyre removal.
- After fitting new sensors, they automatically re-learn after driving a short distance.
Troubleshooting & DIY Tips
- If the TPMS light does not switch off after a reset, drive at above 25 km/h (15 mph) for at least 10 minutes — sometimes the system needs motion to update.
- Always reset with tyres cold for the most accurate pressure reading.
- If the TPMS warning light stays on, recheck all tyres with a reliable manual pressure gauge — even the spare if equipped with a sensor.
- Seasonal changes (cold weather) can trigger the light — add air and reset if needed.
- If one tyre consistently shows as low despite correct pressure, the sensor in that wheel may be failing.
