Reset the Power Windows

If a window on your DS 9 (2021–present) has lost its one-touch up/down — usually after a flat or disconnected battery, or a fuse change — you can re-initialise it yourself in under a minute. No tools.

Losing one-touch on a DS 9 is not a fault and it does not mean anything has broken. The windows still go up and down — they simply need you to hold the switch the whole way instead of tapping once. This is the car’s expected behaviour whenever the door modules lose power, and a short relearn puts everything back to normal.

How It Works on This Model

Each door on the DS 9 has its own window motor with a position sensor, and the module counts pulses from that sensor to know exactly where the fully-closed and fully-open stops are. That learned range is what makes one-touch and the anti-pinch (auto-reverse) safety feature possible. When the 12 V supply is cut — a flat battery, a disconnection for other work, or a pulled fuse — the counts are wiped, so the module falls back to hold-to-move until you teach it the limits again.

Why It Happens

Each window’s control module learns its fully-up and fully-down stops. Cut the power and that memory is lost, so one-touch and anti-pinch stop working until you re-teach the limits.

Before You Start

  • Switch the ignition on (engine running is fine) so the windows have full power.
  • Do it with the door closed so the glass reaches its true seated position at the top.
  • Make sure nothing is in the window channel — no head, arm, or ice.
  • Work one window at a time from that door’s own switch.
  • Expect a firm final movement; the anti-pinch is disabled during the learn, so keep hands clear.

Re-initialising a Window

Do this with the door closed and the ignition on, one window at a time:

  1. Pull the switch up and hold it until the window is fully closed; keep holding for 1–2 seconds after it stops.
  2. Press the switch down and hold until the window is fully open; keep holding briefly after it stops.
  3. Pull up again to fully close and hold briefly — one-touch and anti-pinch are now relearned.
  4. Repeat for each affected window.

If It Still Won’t One-Touch

  • Hold the switch past each limit — letting go early aborts the learn.
  • Do it with the door shut so the glass reaches its true closed position.
  • Check the fuse for that door if the window is completely dead — a blown fuse stops the learn before it starts.
  • Do the full up-down-up cycle again in one go; a half-completed relearn often leaves one-touch working in only one direction.
  • Free a sticky channel — grit or a dry seal can slow the glass so the module never sees a clean end stop.
  • If the battery was just reconnected, give the car a normal drive; some modules only settle after an ignition cycle.
  • A faulty regulator or switch can block the learn — any stored fault can be looked up on autodtcs.com.

What to Expect After

Once the cycle is complete, a single tap up or down should run the glass all the way on its own, and the auto-reverse should nudge back down if it meets resistance near the top. The window keeps this memory permanently unless the battery is disconnected again, so you should not have to repeat it in normal use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my DS 9’s window stop going up with one touch?

The window module lost its learned limits, usually after a battery disconnection, a flat battery, or a fuse change. Without those stored end stops the car defaults to hold-to-move for safety, and a short relearn from the switch restores the one-touch and anti-pinch behaviour.

How do I reset the windows?

Hold the switch fully up (and a moment more), then fully down, then up again, one window at a time. Holding past each end stop for a second or two is the important part — that is what lets the module re-record the top and bottom positions.

Do I need any tools?

No — it’s done entirely with the window switch. There is no diagnostic tool, menu, or dashboard step involved; you only need the ignition on and the door closed while you run the up-down-up cycle on each affected window.

Do I have to do every window?

Only the windows that lost one-touch actually need it, but after a battery disconnection it is common for all four to reset at once. Since each takes only a few seconds, it is quickest to cycle every door while you are at it so nothing is missed.

Is the anti-pinch safety affected?

Yes — the auto-reverse feature relies on the same learned limits, so it is inactive until you finish the relearn. Keep hands and fingers clear of the glass during the procedure, and confirm afterwards that the window reverses if it meets light resistance near the top.

It still won’t work — now what?

Repeat the full up-down-up cycle carefully, holding each limit; if it still fails, check the door fuse and that the glass moves freely. A regulator or switch fault may be stored — you can check what any code means on autodtcs.com.
