The Honda Jazz Mk3 (GK, 2015–2020) — Honda’s third-generation Jazz / Fit, sold across Europe as the Jazz and globally as the Fit, built primarily in Suzuka (Japan) and Yorii (Japan) for export — uses Honda’s i-MID (Intelligent Multi-Information Display) menu-driven service reset. The procedure is consistent with other Honda models of the same era (Civic Mk9, CR-V Mk4, HR-V) but uses a slightly nested menu path. There’s no diagnostic tool needed and no pedal sequence — everything happens through the steering-wheel INFO and SEL/RESET buttons and the cluster’s small colour display.
When to Reset the Service Indicator
- After completing an oil and filter change.
- If the wrench / spanner icon with “SERVICE” or “Maintenance required” appears on the i-MID at startup.
- If you bought the Jazz second-hand and the previous owner didn’t clear the indicator.
⚠️ Like other Honda models, the Mk3 Jazz uses the Maintenance Minder system and tracks multiple service items independently. The i-MID shows codes like A1, B12, etc. (see the FAQ below for what they mean). Clear only the codes that match work you’ve actually completed.
Before You Start
- Park on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Complete the actual maintenance work before the reset.
- Identify the steering-wheel controls. The Mk3 Jazz’s multifunction wheel has:
- INFO button — on the left spoke, marked with an “i” icon. Used to scroll through menu options.
- SEL/RESET button — also on the left spoke, marked with a selection / reset icon. Used to enter and confirm.
- On Mk3 Jazz trims without multifunction controls (very basic S grade), the same procedure uses cluster-mounted equivalents — the INFO button on the cluster face and a SEL/RESET combo button.
Tools and Supplies
None for the reset itself. For the oil change: fresh Honda-spec oil — 0W-20 ACEA C2 / Honda Genuine 0W-20 for the 1.3 i-VTEC (L13B2) engine, 5W-30 ACEA C2 / C3 for the 1.5 i-VTEC Hybrid (LEB-H1) and the higher-output 1.5 (L15B3) where fitted; a new spin-on filter (different parts for L13 and L15 engine families); a 17 mm sump-plug socket; a torque wrench rated to about 30 Nm.
Service Indicator Reset — Step-by-Step
- Stop the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Press and hold the START/STOP button to turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine — Honda’s procedure explicitly says hold rather than press to avoid cranking. Keep both feet off the pedals.
- Wait for the cluster and i-MID to fully wake. The SERVICE or maintenance-required message should be visible.
- Press the INFO button to enter the menu navigation view.
- The i-MID shows the current service item due. Use INFO presses to scroll if multiple items are listed; the menu shows you which is selected.
- Press the SEL/RESET button to confirm and enter that item’s settings.
- Navigate into “Vehicle setting” menu.
- Press INFO to scroll through Vehicle Setting items.
- Press SEL/RESET to confirm.
- Navigate into “Maintenance info”.
- Press INFO to scroll.
- Press SEL/RESET to confirm and enter.
- Navigate to “Maintenance reset”.
- Press INFO to scroll through the items you can reset (Engine oil, Tyre rotation, etc.).
- Highlight the item that matches the work you completed.
- Press SEL/RESET to confirm. The service indicator clears for that item.
- If you need to reset additional items (e.g., you did both an oil change and a tyre rotation), repeat from step 13.
- Switch the ignition off to exit.
Verify the Reset Worked
Switch the ignition off, wait 30 seconds, then cycle back on. The SERVICE / spanner warning at startup should be gone. Re-open the Maintenance Info menu (INFO → Vehicle setting → Maintenance info) — the service item you reset should now show a fresh percentage (typically 100% with 12,500 miles / 20,000 km remaining) for the European-spec Mk3 Jazz on the standard Maintenance Minder schedule.
Troubleshooting
- I can’t find “Vehicle setting” — the menu just shows the current service item. The Mk3 Jazz i-MID needs the INFO button to be pressed after the cluster wakes up to enter the navigation mode. If you press INFO too early (cluster still booting), the menu doesn’t appear. Wait 3-5 seconds after ignition-on before pressing INFO.
- SEL/RESET doesn’t seem to confirm — just resets the trip computer. The SEL/RESET button has two functions: a quick press resets the active trip-computer screen; a longer press (around 1 second) confirms the menu selection. If you’re in the menu and getting a trip reset instead, hold the button slightly longer.
- Maintenance reset succeeds but the spanner symbol returns on the next start. Two causes: (a) more than one service item is due — you cleared only one. Cycle through all the Maintenance Reset items and clear them all. (b) Battery condition — the i-MID’s EEPROM didn’t commit. Load-test the 12V battery.
- I have a Mk3 Jazz Hybrid — same procedure? Yes. The Mk3 Jazz Hybrid (Asia/Australia markets only; the Mk3 in Europe was petrol-only) shares the GK platform’s instrument cluster and Maintenance Minder firmware. The reset procedure is identical.
- i-MID has “Personal info” instead of “Vehicle setting”. Some Mk3 Jazz trims use slightly different menu labels depending on region/year. The path is the same — Vehicle setting / Personal info / Settings are all the same top-level entry under Honda’s evolving naming.
- 2017 facelift Jazz — does the procedure differ? No. The 2017 Mk3 facelift updated the front-end styling and added the Honda Sensing safety pack on higher trims but kept the cluster firmware and Maintenance Minder structure unchanged.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the spanner symbol on the Honda Jazz mean?
On the Mk3 Jazz the spanner / wrench icon is the Maintenance Minder reminder. It illuminates when one or more service items are due. The icon does not indicate an engine fault — engine faults trigger the orange check-engine light (an engine-outline icon, different shape).
What are the Honda Maintenance Minder codes (A1, B12, etc.)?
Same codes as other Honda models. The letter indicates the main service:
- A: Engine oil + filter
- B: Engine oil + filter + inspection items (tyres, brakes, suspension)
The numbers add sub-items:
- 1: Tyre rotation
- 2: Air cleaner + cabin filter + drive belt + dust filter
- 3: Transmission fluid + transfer fluid (4WD only)
- 4: Spark plugs + valve lash check
- 5: Engine coolant
- 6: Differential fluid (4WD only)
A code like “A12” means: oil change + tyre rotation + air filter. Reset each as you complete it.
How often does the Mk3 Jazz service indicator come up?
Honda’s official European-market schedule for the Mk3 Jazz:
- 1.3 i-VTEC petrol (L13B2): typically 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months — variable based on Maintenance Minder algorithm.
- 1.5 i-VTEC petrol (L15B3): typically 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months.
The Maintenance Minder adjusts to driving conditions automatically, so severe-service / short-trip driving can pull the interval down to 9,000 miles or less.
Does the reset clear engine fault codes?
No. The reset zeros the Maintenance Minder counter only. Engine codes need a scan tool. For DTC interpretation see autodtcs.com.
What about the Mk4 Jazz (GR, 2020+)?
The fourth-generation Jazz (GR, 2020 onwards, all-hybrid) uses the newer Honda Connect infotainment with a touchscreen-driven reset path: Vehicle → Service → Maintenance Reset. Different procedure — we’ll publish a dedicated Mk4 guide.
And the Mk2 Jazz (GE, 2008–2015)?
The Mk2 Jazz uses an older cluster with a different button layout but similar menu logic. The path is INFO → Maintenance → Reset (no Vehicle setting intermediate step). We’ll publish a dedicated Mk2 guide.
Will this procedure work on the Honda Fit (same generation, US/JP market)?
Yes. The Honda Fit (the global name for the Jazz outside Europe) uses identical hardware and firmware to the European Jazz. The reset procedure is the same. Honda Fit owner manuals reference the same INFO and SEL/RESET button labels.
