These instructions apply to the Suzuki Swift RS (2004 - 2010). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
Regular oil and filter changes are essential to keep your Suzuki Swift (2004–2010, 63J) running smoothly. Fresh oil lubricates engine parts, reduces wear, and improves efficiency, while the filter keeps contaminants out. This guide shows you how to change the engine oil and oil filter step by step.
When Should You Change the Oil?
Every 10,000–15,000 km (6,000–9,000 miles) or once a year (whichever comes first).
More frequently if you drive in heavy traffic, dusty areas, or extreme temperatures.
If the oil change light or service reminder appears.
Tools & Parts Needed
New engine oil (check filler cap/manual for recommended type: 5W-30 is common)
New oil filter (OEM or quality aftermarket replacement)
Socket wrench set and oil filter wrench
Drain pan
Funnel
Rags or paper towels
Car jack and jack stands (or ramps)
Gloves and safety glasses
Step-by-Step: Oil & Filter Change
1. Warm Up the Engine
Run the engine for 3–5 minutes, then switch it off.
Warm oil drains faster and carries away more contaminants.
2. Raise the Vehicle
Park on level ground, engage the handbrake, and put the car in gear or Park.
Use a jack and secure the vehicle with jack stands (never rely on the jack alone).
3. Drain the Old Oil
Place the drain pan under the oil sump plug.
Use the correct socket to loosen the plug and carefully remove it.
Allow the oil to drain completely (5–10 minutes).
Replace the sump plug washer if required and tighten the plug securely.
4. Replace the Oil Filter
Locate the oil filter (mounted on the side of the engine).
Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove it.
Wipe the mounting surface with a clean rag.
Lightly coat the rubber seal of the new filter with fresh oil.
Screw in the new filter by hand until snug, then tighten another ¾ turn.
5. Add Fresh Oil
Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
Place a funnel in the opening and pour in the recommended amount of oil (approx. 3.2–3.5 liters depending on engine).
Replace the cap securely.
6. Check Oil Level
Start the engine and let it run for 1–2 minutes.
Switch it off and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.
Pull out the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert, and check the oil level.
Add more oil if needed, but do not overfill.
7. Dispose of Old Oil Properly
Take the used oil and filter to a recycling center or authorized collection point.
Never dump oil in the trash, drain, or on the ground.
Tips for a Clean Oil Change
Always use the oil grade specified on the oil filler cap or manual.
Replace the oil filter at every oil change.
Record the mileage and date for your next service.
✅ Following this procedure will keep your Suzuki Swift (2004–2010, 63J) engine properly lubricated and extend its lifespan.
