Home/Suzuki/Swift/RS (2004 - 2010)/Rotate Tires for Even Wear

Rotate Tires for Even Wear

These instructions apply to the Suzuki Swift RS (2004 - 2010). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Regular tire rotation helps your Suzuki Swift (2004–2010, 63J) achieve even tread wear, longer tire life, and better handling. Because front tires carry more weight and handle steering, they typically wear out faster than the rear tires. Rotating them ensures balanced performance and safety.

When Should You Rotate Tires?

  • Every 10,000–12,000 km (6,000–7,500 miles) or at every oil change.

  • If you notice uneven wear (e.g., front tires wearing faster).

  • Before long trips to maximize tire life.

Tools Needed

  • Car jack and jack stands (or a hydraulic lift)

  • Wheel wrench

  • Torque wrench (recommended)

  • Wheel chocks

Tire Rotation Patterns

1. Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) – Suzuki Swift standard

  • Front tires → move straight to the rear.

  • Rear tires → move diagonally to the opposite front.

Example:

  • Rear left → Front right

  • Rear right → Front left

  • Front left → Rear left

  • Front right → Rear right

2. Directional Tires (with arrows on sidewall)

  • Rotate front to rear only, keeping tires on the same side.

3. Different Size Front & Rear Tires

  • If your Swift is fitted with staggered tires (rare), only rotate side to side.

Step-by-Step: Rotating Tires

1. Preparation

  • Park on level ground, engage the handbrake, and place wheel chocks.

  • Loosen wheel nuts slightly before lifting the car.

2. Lift the Vehicle

  • Use a jack and secure with jack stands under the correct jacking points.

  • Never work under a car supported only by a jack.

3. Swap the Tires

  • Follow the correct rotation pattern for your tire type.

  • Move each wheel to its new position.

4. Tighten Wheel Nuts

  • Hand-tighten all nuts first, then use a wrench.

  • Once the vehicle is lowered, torque the nuts to manufacturer specification (usually 85–110 Nm for the Swift).

  • Tighten in a crisscross (diagonal) sequence for even pressure.

5. Check Tire Pressure

  • Inflate all tires to the recommended pressure (check the sticker inside the driver’s door).

Tips for Tire Care

  • Inspect tread depth and sidewalls during rotation.

  • Replace tires in sets of four for best handling.

  • Always balance and align tires if you notice vibrations or uneven wear.

✅ By rotating your tires regularly, you’ll extend their lifespan, improve fuel economy, and keep your Suzuki Swift (2004–2010) safe on the road.
