Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

These instructions apply to the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Mk2 (AK) 2022-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 12, 2026

Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Mk2 (AK, 2022–present) is a simple engine-bay job — but the 1.4 Boosterjet mild-hybrid version carries a separate 48 V battery you must not touch. Read the safety note before you start.

Know Which Battery Is Which

  • The main 12 V starter battery is in the engine bay — this is the one this guide covers.
  • The 1.4 Boosterjet (K14D) is a 48 V mild hybrid with a 48 V lithium battery under the front passenger seat. Leave that to a Suzuki specialist — never disconnect or remove it yourself.

Disconnecting the 12 V Battery

  1. Turn the ignition off and wait 3 minutes before touching the terminals. Wear gloves.
  2. Disconnect the earth (negative, −) cable first and tuck it clear.
  3. If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+) next, then the clamp.

Do not disturb the 48 V lithium battery under the passenger seat on mild-hybrid cars — that’s a workshop job.

Reconnecting & Re-teaching

  1. Reconnect positive (+) first, then the earth (−) last.
  2. Reset the clock and radio presets.
  3. Re-initialise the power windows — one-touch drops out after a power cut; see our window guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the 12V battery on a Suzuki S-Cross?

In the engine bay. Disconnect the earth (negative) terminal first.

My S-Cross is a mild hybrid — is it safe to work on the battery?

Yes for the engine-bay 12 V battery. Do not touch the 48 V lithium battery under the front passenger seat — leave it to a Suzuki technician.

Does the battery need coding?

No registration is required for the 12 V battery; just re-teach the windows afterwards.

Why won’t my windows auto-close now?

The power cut cleared the learned limits. Run the window re-initialise.

For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the oil reminder, see our S-Cross Mk2 service reset.
