Home/Vauxhall/Corsa/Mk4 (D/S07) 2006-2014/Replace the Key Fob Battery

Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Vauxhall Corsa Mk4 (D/S07) 2006-2014. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 5, 2026

If the remote on your Vauxhall Corsa D (2006–2014) — the Opel Corsa D elsewhere — only works from up close, or has stopped locking the car altogether, the fob’s coin battery is almost always the cause. Replacing it is a two-minute job, and if the remote has fallen out of sync you can re-synchronise it yourself too. This guide covers both, plus what you can’t do at home.

First, Rule Out the Battery

A weak fob battery is the number-one reason a Corsa remote becomes unreliable — short range, needing several presses, or no response. Before assuming anything more serious, fit a fresh cell. The Corsa D fob uses a CR2032 coin cell.

Replacing the Fob Battery

  1. Slide out the emergency key blade if your fob has one — this often helps release the case.
  2. Remove the key cover / split the two halves of the case carefully.
  3. Lift out the old CR2032 cell, taking care not to touch the terminals.
  4. Fit the new cell the correct way round (observe the polarity of the old one).
  5. Refit the cover and test the remote.

Re-synchronising the Remote

If the remote still doesn’t lock/unlock after a fresh battery — or it lost sync after the battery was flat — re-synchronise it:

  1. Use the emergency key blade to unlock the driver’s door and get into the car.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition on.
  3. The remote control is re-synchronised with the car — test that it now locks and unlocks.

This works because turning the ignition on with the key tells the car to re-pair the existing remote — handy after the fob battery has been flat.

Lost Key or Adding a Spare

The steps above cover a fob that already belongs to the car. Programming a brand-new remote/key for a lost or extra key needs Vauxhall/Opel dealer or auto-locksmith equipment — there is no owner sequence that registers a new transponder, because it involves the immobiliser.

If a Fresh Battery and Resync Don’t Fix It

  • Check the cell polarity and contacts — a cell fitted the wrong way or dirty contacts give no response.
  • Use the key blade to lock/unlock manually in the meantime.
  • Still nothing? The receiver or a body-control fault may be involved — the car can store a code you can look up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the Corsa D key fob take?

A CR2032 coin cell. Check the old one when you open the fob to confirm.

Do I need to reprogram the remote after changing the battery?

Usually not — the programming is retained. If it has lost sync, the ignition-on resync above restores it.

Can I program a new Corsa D key myself?

No — a brand-new key/remote must be coded by a dealer or locksmith, as it involves the immobiliser.

Is the Opel Corsa D the same?

Yes — the Vauxhall and Opel Corsa D are the same car, so this applies to both.

If the remote stopped working after a battery disconnection, see our Corsa D battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
