Activate Inspection Modes

These instructions apply to the Nissan Qashqai J12 (2021-present). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Nissan Qashqai J12 includes several inspection and test modes used for emissions checks, 2-wheel dynamometer testing, or high-voltage system maintenance. These modes can be activated either with a diagnostic tool or manually, following a specific sequence using the pedals and gear selector. This guide explains how to activate and deactivate each mode safely.

Available Inspection Modes

  • Emission Test Mode – keeps the engine running continuously for emissions testing or troubleshooting.
  • 2WD Test Mode – used when running the car on a two-wheel dynamometer.
  • Engine Rev Mode – allows controlled engine speed operation during diagnostics.
  • Cranking Mode – for checking cylinder compression without engine start-up.
  • Discharge Mode – used to discharge the high-voltage battery during maintenance.

Important Conditions

  • Battery state of charge should be between 45–75%.
  • Coolant temperature must exceed 75 °C.
  • All sequences must be completed within 60 seconds.

Emission Test Mode (Manual Activation)

  1. Move the gear lever to P.
  2. Press the START/STOP button once to turn ignition ON (do not start the car).
  3. Fully press the accelerator pedal twice.
  4. Press the brake pedal.
  5. Shift to N.
  6. Fully press the accelerator pedal twice.
  7. Press the brake pedal again.
  8. Shift back to P and fully depress the accelerator pedal twice.
  9. The e-Power warning light will flash, confirming activation.
  10. Press the START/STOP button to READY mode — the engine will start and remain running.

2WD Test Mode (Manual Activation)

  1. Move the gear lever to P.
  2. Switch ignition ON (engine off).
  3. Fully press the accelerator pedal three times.
  4. Press the brake pedal.
  5. Shift to N, then fully press the accelerator pedal three times.
  6. Press the brake pedal again, shift back to P, and press the accelerator three times.
  7. The battery charge warning light will flash, confirming activation.
  8. Press the START/STOP button to READY — the engine will run for testing.

Engine Rev Mode (Manual Activation)

  1. Gear in P, ignition ON.
  2. Fully press the accelerator pedal five times.
  3. Press the brake pedal.
  4. Shift to N, press accelerator five times.
  5. Press the brake again, shift back to P, and press the accelerator five times.
  6. The e-Power and battery charge lights flash — confirming mode entry.
  7. Press START/STOP to READY — engine runs for diagnostic rev tests.

Cranking Mode (Manual Activation)

  1. Move gear lever to P, ignition ON.
  2. Fully press accelerator pedal six times.
  3. Press brake pedal, shift to N.
  4. Press accelerator pedal six times again, then shift back to P.
  5. Fully depress the accelerator pedal six times once more.
  6. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  7. Press and hold the START/STOP button for 30 seconds.
  8. The engine will crank without starting, and the READY indicator flashes.

Discharge Mode (Manual Activation)

  1. Gear in P, ignition ON.
  2. Fully press accelerator pedal seven times.
  3. Press brake pedal, shift to N.
  4. Fully press accelerator pedal seven times.
  5. Press brake pedal again, shift back to P, and press accelerator seven times.
  6. The e-Power light will flash — confirming activation.
  7. Press and hold the brake pedal and turn ignition to READY. The engine will start and battery discharge begins.

Deactivating Inspection Modes

  • To exit any inspection mode, turn the ignition OFF.
  • For Cranking or Discharge modes, releasing the brake pedal also cancels the mode.
