Home/Suzuki/Swift/RS (2004 - 2010)/Replace Headlight, Fog Light, and Taillight Bulbs

Replace Headlight, Fog Light, and Taillight Bulbs

These instructions apply to the Suzuki Swift RS (2004 - 2010). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Lighting is essential for safe driving, and burned-out bulbs can lead to poor visibility and even fines. The Suzuki Swift (2004–2010, 63J) uses halogen bulbs for headlights, fog lights, and taillights. Replacing them is a straightforward DIY job with a few simple tools.

When Should You Replace a Bulb?

  • If the headlight, fog light, or taillight fails to illuminate.

  • If the beam looks dim or flickers.

  • After several years of use, as halogen bulbs degrade over time.

Tools & Parts Needed

  • Replacement bulbs (check your manual for correct type, common ones include H4 (headlight), H11 (fog light), P21/5W (taillight))

  • Flat-blade screwdriver (for taillight screws)

  • Gloves (to avoid touching bulbs with bare hands)

Step-by-Step: Headlight Bulb Replacement

  1. Open the bonnet and locate the rear of the headlight housing.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.

  3. Remove the rubber dust cover.

  4. Release the metal spring clip holding the bulb in place.

  5. Take out the old bulb and insert the new one (do not touch the glass with bare fingers).

  6. Re-secure the clip, refit the dust cover, and reconnect the connector.

Step-by-Step: Fog Light Bulb Replacement

  1. Turn the steering wheel fully to one side to access the fog light housing behind the bumper.

  2. Remove the splash guard clips if necessary for easier access.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it out.

  5. Replace the bulb with a new one of the same type.

  6. Refit the holder and reconnect the wiring.

Step-by-Step: Taillight Bulb Replacement

  1. Open the boot and locate the taillight cluster screws.

  2. Remove the screws with a screwdriver and gently pull the taillight housing out.

  3. Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise to release it.

  4. Remove the faulty bulb and replace it with a new one of the same rating.

  5. Reinstall the bulb holder and taillight assembly.

Tips for Longer Bulb Life

  • Replace bulbs in pairs for even light output.

  • Avoid touching the glass — use gloves or a tissue.

  • Check fuses if the new bulb doesn’t light up.

✅ With these steps, you can easily replace headlight, fog light, and taillight bulbs on your Suzuki Swift (2004–2010, 63J) and keep your car safe and road-legal.
