Short answer: you can clear the service reminder on the Mitsubishi Outlander CW (2006–2012) yourself with the meter information switch — no tool. With the reminder showing, press and hold the meter info button for over 1.2 seconds until the reminder flashes, then press it briefly; “CLEAR” appears and the counter resets.
What the Service Reminder Is
The Outlander tracks its service interval and shows a spanner/service reminder with the remaining distance or time on the multi-information display as the service falls due. Carrying out the service does not clear it — the counter has to be reset from the instrument cluster.
Reset the Service Reminder
- With the ignition OFF, operate the meter information switch on the instrument cluster until the service reminder period is shown on the multi-information display.
- Press and hold the meter information switch for about 1.2 seconds or longer — the service reminder indicator starts to flash.
- While it is flashing, give the meter information switch a quick tap (a short press).
- “CLEAR” is displayed for about 3 seconds, then the period to the next service is shown. The reminder is reset.
Important: do the reset only once, after the service. Clearing it a second time can cancel the next warning period.
Before You Start
- Do the service first. Resetting the counter without the work just hides the interval.
- Make sure the display is showing the service reminder period before you hold the button — the reset only works from that screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reset the service light on a Mitsubishi Outlander (2006–2012)?
Use the meter information switch: bring up the service reminder period on the display, hold the button for over 1.2 seconds until the reminder flashes, then press it briefly — “CLEAR” confirms the reset. No tool needed.
Which button is the meter information switch?
It’s the information/trip button on the instrument cluster that scrolls the multi-information display. Use it to reach the service reminder period first.
Why shouldn’t I reset it twice?
Clearing the reminder a second time after it has already been reset can cancel the next warning period. If you do it by mistake, a workshop can restore the schedule.
The reminder came back — what happened?
Usually the display wasn’t on the service reminder period when you held the button, or the flash step was missed. Bring the period up again and repeat the hold-then-tap sequence.
If a warning light or fault code appeared with the service message, look it up on our sister site autodtcs.com to see whether it’s a fault or just the service interval.
