These instructions apply to the Volvo S40 Mk2 (544) 2004-2012.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
If your Volvo S40 is fitted with tyre-pressure monitoring, the warning has to be re-calibrated after you adjust the pressures or change a wheel. On the S40 this is done from the car’s own menu, then confirmed with a short drive.
Reset the S40 tyre-pressure warning
- First set all four tyres to the correct cold pressures from the placard on the door pillar.
- Turn the ignition key to position 1 or 2.
- In the menu, select Car settings, then Tyre pressure.
- Choose Calibrate tyre pressure and press OK.
- Drive normally for at least five minutes, exceeding 40 km/h (25 mph). The system stores the new pressures as the reference.
Not every S40 has this system — it was optional. If your car has no tyre-pressure menu, it monitors nothing to reset, and the warning you are seeing is a different message.
Frequently asked questions
When do I need to recalibrate?
Any time you adjust the pressures, rotate the wheels, or fit different tyres. The system learns “correct” from whatever it reads at calibration, so always set the right pressures first.
The light stayed on after calibrating — what now?
Re-check that all four tyres, and ideally the spare, are at the placard pressure, then drive a little further above 40 km/h. A light that will not clear can also mean a failing wheel sensor.
Does the S40 relearn without any tools?
Yes — this menu-based calibration needs no scan tool, just the pressures set correctly and a short drive.
If a TPMS fault code is stored rather than a simple low-pressure warning, you can look it up on autodtcs.com.
