These instructions apply to the Toyota Hilux Mk8 (AN120/AN130) 2016-2024.

When your Hilux is due an oil change the multi-information display shows “Oil maintenance required” (or “…required soon”). After you change the oil and filter, clear the reminder yourself in about 20 seconds using the trip-meter button — no dealer visit or scan tool needed.
This is the diesel engine’s oil-change reminder, which is separate from the DPF warnings and from the scheduled-service record in your warranty booklet. The reset only works if the engine is not started during the procedure.
Resetting the oil maintenance light
- Switch the instrument display to trip meter A. Put the ignition in ON mode (press the ENGINE START/STOP button once without the brake, engine off) and press the display-change button on the instrument cluster until Trip A is shown.
- Turn the ignition off (press START/STOP again, or turn the key to LOCK).
- Press and hold the odometer / trip-meter display-change button.
- While still holding it, turn the ignition back to ON mode — do not start the engine. Starting the engine cancels reset mode.
- Keep holding until the trip meter shows 000000, then hold for one more second. The oil-maintenance message clears.
Market note: this procedure applies to UK and European “model-code W” Hilux (2.4 and 2.8 D-4D). The button is the same knob you use to switch between the odometer and the two trip meters.
Troubleshooting
The display reads “Resetting of oil maintenance data incomplete”. You either started the engine or released the button too early. Turn everything off and run the steps again, keeping the engine stopped the whole time.
What is the spanner (wrench) symbol? On the Hilux it is the maintenance-due reminder. Clearing the oil-maintenance data as above turns it off once the service is done.
The message comes straight back. The reset did not latch — repeat the sequence and hold the button until 000000 appears and stays.
If a warning light stays on after the reset, read the exact fault with a code reader and look it up on autodtcs.com.
