Specifications, Dimensions and Weights

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the GMC Sierra 1500 Mk3 (K2XX) 2014-2018.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Full specifications for the third-generation GMC Sierra 1500 (K2XX, 2014-2018), laid out by gasoline engine — the 4.3L V6, 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8. Engine output, towing, economy and dimensions are compiled from manufacturer figures and cross-checked US sources; fluids, capacities and torques are from the owner manual. Dimensions shown are for the common Crew Cab short box. Confirm anything critical against your own truck.

Each column is one specific vehicle — a single engine or motor and, where shown, body style. Dimensions and several weights are specific to that body and drivetrain; other body or powertrain versions differ, so match the column to your own vehicle.

Sources: Owner's manual · Workshop data. Where an owner’s manual or homologation figure exists it takes precedence; workshop data fills only what those omit.

A dash (—) means we haven’t verified that figure for that variant yet, not that it doesn’t exist. Figures are US-market. Towing, payload and weights are best-case/config-dependent — your door-jamb label is the authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which engine does my Sierra 1500 have?

The K2XX offered three gas engines: a 285 hp 4.3L V6, a 355 hp 5.3L V8, and a 420 hp 6.2L V8. The 6.2L gained an 8-speed automatic from 2015.

How much can the 2014-2018 Sierra 1500 tow?

Up to about 7,200 lb with the V6, up to 11,200 lb with the 5.3L and up to 12,000 lb with the 6.2L, when equipped with the Max Trailering Package. Real figures depend on cab, axle and trim.

What oil does it take?

5.7 L (6.0 qt) of 5W-30 on the 4.3L V6, and 7.6 L (8.0 qt) on the V8s — 0W-20 for 2016 and later, 5W-30 on 2014-2015. All dexos1.

What size tires and pressures?

Common fitments run 265/70R17 and 265/65R18 at 35 psi, or 20-inch wheels at 32 psi. Your door-pillar label is the authority.

Disclaimer: Specifications vary by model year, trim, cab, bed and options. Always confirm critical figures (towing, payload, weights, tire sizes) against your own vehicle’s door label and documents.
