These instructions apply to the Ford Explorer Mk5 (U502) 2011-2019.

The 2011–2019 Ford Explorer (U502) has a direct TPMS with a sensor in each wheel. There is no owner relearn procedure — the low-pressure light clears on its own once the pressures are right. This is the US-market procedure.
Clear the low-pressure light
- Set all four tires to the correct cold pressure from the placard.
- Drive for at least 2 minutes above 20 mph (32 km/h) — the light turns off by itself.
After new tires, wheels, or sensors
Fitting new sensors or wheels needs a dealer or TPMS tool to train the sensor IDs — it is not an owner procedure on the Explorer. With the spare fitted, the light stays on by design until the road wheel is back on.
Where are the pressures?
On the Tire Label on the driver’s door edge or B-pillar. The mini-spare takes 60 psi.
FAQ
Is there a TPMS reset button?
No — correct the cold pressures and drive a couple of minutes above 20 mph; the light clears itself.
The light stays on at correct pressure.
A sensor fault or unregistered new sensor needs a dealer; the spare being fitted also keeps it on.
Why no DIY relearn?
Ford trains these sensors with a dealer activation tool rather than an owner sequence.
If your Explorer stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
