The 2020-and-newer Ford Explorer has remote jump points under the hood. This is the US-market procedure.
- Park a 12 V donor close but not touching; parking brakes on, ignitions off. Open the hood.
- Remove the access cover, then the red cover over the positive (+) jump point. The negative point is the rear mounting bolt for the cross brace.
- Red (+) to the Explorer’s positive jump point, then to the donor’s positive (+).
- Black (−) to the donor’s negative (−), then to the Explorer’s cross-brace ground bolt (or bare engine metal away from the battery).
- Hold the donor at 2,000–3,000 rpm, start the Explorer, run both about 3 minutes, then remove the cables in reverse order.
FAQ
Where are the jump points?
Under the hood: the positive under a red cover (after removing the access cover) and the negative at the cross-brace rear mounting bolt.
Why 2,000-3,000 rpm on the donor?
Ford recommends raising the donor’s revs to feed enough charge before cranking.
Still won’t start?
Give it a few minutes at raised donor rpm; a repeat failure means a battery/alternator test.
If your Explorer stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
