Specifications, Dimensions and Weights

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 14, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the RAM 1500 Mk3 (DR/DH) 2002-2008.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Full specifications for the third-generation Dodge Ram 1500 (DR 2002-2005, facelifted DH/D1 2006-2008), by engine — the 215 hp 3.7L V6, the 4.7L V8 (235 hp, then a revised 310 hp for 2008) and the 345 hp 5.7L HEMI introduced for 2003. Towing, weights and dimensions depend heavily on cab (Regular / Quad / Mega) and box (6’4″ or 8’), so figures are shown as ranges — always check your door placard. EPA figures before and after the 2008 method change are not directly comparable.

Each column is one specific vehicle — a single engine or motor and, where shown, body style. Dimensions and several weights are specific to that body and drivetrain; other body or powertrain versions differ, so match the column to your own vehicle.

Sources: Owner's manual. Where an owner’s manual or homologation figure exists it takes precedence; workshop data fills only what those omit.

A dash (—) means we haven’t verified that figure yet. Figures are US-market and vary by cab, box, drivetrain and axle ratio; your door-jamb label is the authority for weights and tire pressures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engines did the 2002-2008 Ram 1500 offer?

A 215 hp 3.7L V6, a 4.7L V8 (235 hp, revised to 310 hp for 2008), and the 345 hp 5.7L HEMI (from 2003, with cylinder deactivation from 2006).

How much can the HEMI Ram 1500 tow?

Up to roughly 8,800-9,100 lb with the 5.7L HEMI and the right axle ratio; the 4.7L V8 pulls up to about 7,250 lb and the V6 around 3,800 lb.

When did the Ram 1500 get the HEMI and the Mega Cab?

The 5.7L HEMI arrived mid-2003; the roomy Mega Cab was added for 2006 alongside the facelift and HEMI cylinder deactivation.

What size is the fuel tank?

26 US gallons on the short box and 34-35 gallons on the long box — the Mega Cab uses the larger tank.
