Reset the Tyre Pressure Warning Light

These instructions apply to the Mazda 6 Mk3 (GJ/GL) 2012-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 5, 2026

When the tyre-pressure warning light comes on in your Mazda 6 Mk3 (GJ/GL, 2012–present), it usually just means the system needs to store your current pressures as the new reference after a check, top-up or wheel change. The reset method changed with the 2018 facelift, so this guide covers both — the early SET-button cars and the later drive-to-relearn cars.

When to Reset

  • After checking or adjusting the tyre pressures (including seasonal changes).
  • After changing, repositioning or renewing one or more wheels/tyres.
  • After disconnecting or renewing the battery.

Set Your Pressures First

The reset stores whatever pressures are in the tyres at that moment, so they must be correct first. Park on level ground and set all four (cold) to the figures on the placard in the driver’s door aperture, using the laden column for a full load. Never reset with a tyre already low.

Early Cars (2012–2017) — TPMS SET Button

  1. Make sure all four tyres are at the correct cold pressure.
  2. Turn the ignition on (engine can be off).
  3. Press and hold the TPMS “SET” button (low on the dash — right of the wheel on RHD cars, left on LHD) until a confirmation signal sounds and the warning light flashes twice.
  4. Release the button and drive for about 20 minutes to store the new pressures.

Facelift Cars (2018 on) — Drive to Relearn

The facelift dropped the button — the system relearns by driving:

  1. Make sure all four tyres are at the correct cold pressure.
  2. Turn the ignition on, then off, and wait 15 minutes.
  3. Start the engine and drive for about 10 minutes, keeping your speed above 25 km/h (15 mph).
  4. The warning light goes out once the system has read all four correct pressures.

Light Won’t Go Out? Work Through This

  • A tyre is genuinely low: find and fix the leak, re-inflate, then reset/drive again.
  • Reset not confirmed (early cars): you should hear a beep and see the light flash twice — if not, check the ignition is on and you held SET long enough.
  • Light flashes then stays on (not a low tyre): a flashing TPMS light points to a sensor fault, often a flat sensor battery. A code may be stored that you can look up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which method my Mazda 6 uses?

If there’s a TPMS SET button low on the dash, you have the early system — hold it to reset. No button means the 2018-on car, which relearns by driving.

Do I have to drive after resetting?

Yes on both systems — a drive lets the system confirm the stored pressures, after which the light goes out.

Why does the light come back a few days later?

Either a tyre is slowly losing air, or it was a little low when you reset. Re-check all four cold pressures and reset/drive again.

Do I need to reset after just topping up the air?

Yes — any pressure change shifts the reference, so reset (or drive to relearn) after any adjustment.

After tyre or seasonal-wheel work it is worth confirming the service reminder is clear — see our Mazda 6 service indicator reset guide.
