What the Maintenance Reminder Means
The maintenance reminder on the second-generation C-HR is a service prompt, not a warning of a fault. The car counts the distance you drive and the time that passes since the reminder was last cleared, and when either reaches the preset limit it shows a ‘Maintenance’ message (often with a spanner symbol) at start-up to tell you a routine service is due. It has no way of sensing that the oil has actually been changed — it simply runs a timer, so the message stays on the display until you reset it through the menu.
Because it is condition-agnostic, the reminder appearing does not mean anything is wrong with the engine or the hybrid system. It is the same prompt whether the car has covered a lot of short trips or a few long ones. If you see a separate, clearly-lit warning symbol — a red temperature or oil-pressure light, an amber engine-management light, or a hybrid-system warning — that is a genuine fault and is not what this reset clears.
Before You Begin
Get the car and yourself ready before you open the menu — it only takes a moment and keeps the reset clean:
- Finish the service first. Clearing the reminder early simply hides it while the oil keeps ageing, so reset it once the work is done.
- Park safely. Handbrake on, transmission in Park, on level ground.
- Ignition ON, not READY. Press Start without your foot on the brake so the hybrid system powers the dash in IG-ON but does not go to READY (engine/hybrid live).
- No tools. The whole reset is done from the car’s own display with the steering-wheel buttons.
Reset After the Service Only
The reminder tracks distance and time since the last reset. Clearing it early simply hides it while the oil keeps ageing, so reset it once the work is done.
How to Reset the C-HR Mk2 Maintenance Reminder
- Switch the ignition ON (press Start without your foot on the brake so the hybrid system stays in IG-ON, not READY).
- Using the multifunction display, select ‘Settings’.
- Select the ‘Vehicle settings’ menu.
- Select ‘Utility’, then ‘Oil Maintenance’.

The step people miss is the last confirmation prompt: the C-HR asks you to confirm before it clears the counter, and if you back out of the menu without confirming, the reminder is left untouched. Step all the way through ‘Oil Maintenance’ until the display acknowledges the reset.
If It Doesn’t Reset
If the maintenance message is still there after you switch off and on, run through these before assuming anything is wrong:
- You didn’t confirm the prompt. Step through ‘Oil Maintenance’ again all the way to the confirmation.
- Wrong ignition state. If the car went to READY (engine/hybrid live), put it back to IG-ON — press Start once without touching the brake — and retry.
- You’re in the wrong menu. The reset lives under Settings → Vehicle settings → Utility → Oil Maintenance; a similar-looking display item won’t clear it.
- Cycle and repeat. Switch fully off, wait a few seconds, power the dash back up and work through the menu once more.
- A different warning is lit. That’s a fault, not the maintenance counter, and it won’t clear this way.
After the Reset
As soon as you confirm, the maintenance message clears and the counter restarts from a full interval. The setting is stored straight away, so the reminder should not reappear the next time you start the car and will stay off until the new interval is used up. If the display is clean at the next start-up, the reset has taken and there is nothing further to do.
How Often You’ll Need This
Reset the reminder once after each service, right after the oil and filter change — not before, and not more than once per service. The C-HR’s interval is based on both distance and elapsed time, so a car doing mostly short local trips can trip the reminder on time rather than mileage; that is expected. For the exact interval that applies to your car and driving pattern, follow the schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than a remembered figure.
