Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

These instructions apply to the Skoda Kodiaq Mk1 (NS) 2016-2024. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Skoda Kodiaq Mk1 (NS, 2016–2024) is a straightforward engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection and what the car needs re-taught afterwards.

Where the Battery Is

The 12 V battery sits in the engine bay, under a cover. The petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) Kodiaq has no high-voltage system to worry about.

Disconnecting

  1. Switch the ignition off, remove the key/keyless fob and wait a minute for the electronics to sleep.
  2. Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first and tuck the lead aside.
  3. If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+) next, then the clamp and cover.

Reconnecting & Re-teaching

  1. Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last.
  2. Reset the clock; the infotainment reloads on its own.
  3. Re-initialise the one-touch windows — see our Kodiaq window guide.
  4. Stop/start may behave conservatively for a drive or two while the battery monitor relearns — normal.

A like-for-like battery doesn’t strictly need coding, but a different type or capacity should be registered to the battery-management system with an OBD tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which terminal first on the Kodiaq?

The negative (−) first, and reconnect it last.

Does the Skoda Kodiaq battery need coding?

A matching replacement generally doesn’t; a different type/capacity should be registered for correct charging.

Will I lose my radio?

No code is normally needed — just reset the clock.

Why won’t my windows auto-close now?

The power cut cleared their learned position. Run the quick re-initialise.

For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the service reminder, see our Kodiaq service reset.
