Home/Porsche/Cayenne/Mk3 (9YA) 2018-Present/Replace the Key Fob Battery

Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Porsche Cayenne Mk3 (9YA) 2018-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 12, 2026

If the key on your Porsche Cayenne (2018–present) — the 9YA — has lost its range or shows a low-key-battery message, the coin cell inside is almost certainly flat. It’s a quick swap with a CR2032.

Battery First — What You Need

  • A CR2032 coin cell.

If the key is dead you can still start the car: hold the key against the steering column / start switch as described in your handbook. The pull-out mechanical key blade unlocks the driver’s door.

Replacing the Cell

  1. Pull out the mechanical key from the fob.
  2. Remove the key cover, then the button-cell cover.
  3. Renew the cell with a CR2032 (correct polarity).
  4. Refit the button-cell cover, the key cover and the mechanical key.

Lost Key or Adding a Spare

A cell swap keeps the existing coding. A new key must be programmed by a Porsche centre — there’s no owner sequence.

If a Fresh Cell Doesn’t Help

  • Check the polarity — an upside-down cell won’t work.
  • Hold the key to the start switch to drive in the meantime.
  • Still flagging? A keyless-entry fault can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the Porsche Cayenne key use?

A single CR2032 coin cell.

Do I need to reprogram the key after the swap?

No — the coding is retained for a battery change.

Can I program a new Cayenne key myself?

No — a new key must be coded by a Porsche centre.

The key is dead — how do I start the car?

Hold the key to the start switch as you operate it; use the blade to unlock the door.

If the key flagged after a battery disconnection, see our Cayenne battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
