Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Porsche Macan (2014–present) — the 95B — for a new battery, winter storage, or work near the airbags is straightforward, with a couple of Porsche-specific steps.
Find the Battery First
The 12 V battery is in the engine compartment, under a cover. Note your presets before you start.
Disconnecting Safely
- Switch the ignition off and keep keyless transmitters well away (outside range) so the car can’t wake up.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags or pretensioners? Insulate the earth cable and wait about a minute before such work.
Reconnecting and Re-initialising
Reconnect positive first, then negative. The Macan then relearns:
- Power windows / sunroof — one-touch needs re-initialising (see our Macan window-reset guide).
- Air suspension (if fitted) re-levels; steering-angle and assistance settle after a short drive.
- Re-enter the clock and presets.
If Something Isn’t Right Afterwards
- Warning lights often clear after a short drive.
- A persistent light stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
- Fit a like-for-like AGM battery of the correct spec; registering it to the energy manager needs Porsche equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the battery on a Porsche Macan?
In the engine compartment, under a cover.
Why keep the key away?
So the car can’t wake and power circuits while you’re disconnecting.
Which terminal first?
Negative (−) off first, reconnect it last.
Do I need to code the new battery?
A like-for-like swap works; registering it to the energy manager needs Porsche diagnostic equipment.
If a warning light stays on after reconnecting, look up the code on autodtcs.com.
