After an oil-and-filter change on your SsangYong Musso (Q200, 2018–2023) — including the long-bed Grand Musso — the service / checkup reminder needs resetting so the countdown starts again from zero. The Musso tracks its maintenance on a distance-and-time basis, and when the interval is up it shows a checkup alert on the instrument cluster to prompt the next service. That alert is a maintenance reminder, not a fault — it simply means the scheduled interval has elapsed. You can clear it yourself from the dashboard User Settings menu, and no tool is needed.

What the Checkup Alert Means

The Musso’s checkup alert is part of its dashboard information system. Rather than a single generic ‘service’ symbol, the menu breaks maintenance down into separate items — the one you’ll usually be resetting is ‘Engine oil and filter’. When the interval for that item is reached, the cluster reminds you it’s due. It works on a fixed schedule based on distance covered and time elapsed, so the alert can appear either because you’ve driven the set mileage or because enough months have passed — whichever comes first. Because it’s a scheduled reminder, resetting it only tells the truck that the work has been done; it doesn’t change anything mechanical.

Before You Start

  • Do the oil and filter change first — resetting only clears the reminder, it doesn’t service the engine.
  • Park on level ground with the vehicle stationary and the handbrake applied.
  • Switch the ignition ON with the engine OFF so the cluster and menu are live.
  • No tools or diagnostic equipment are needed — everything is done with the steering-wheel/cluster buttons.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Press the ‘MENU’ button repeatedly until ‘User Settings’ appears.
  2. Select ‘Dashboard settings’.
  3. Select ‘Checkup alert’.
  4. Select ‘Engine oil and filter’.
  5. Press and hold the ‘ENTER’ button — the service interval is reset.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Hold ENTER long enough — a brief press won’t register; keep it held until the reminder actually clears.
  • Make sure you selected ‘Engine oil and filter’ under Checkup alert — resetting a different item won’t clear the oil reminder.
  • Check the ignition is ON with the engine OFF — if the cluster isn’t fully live the menu may not respond.
  • Cycle the ignition off and on and repeat the menu steps if the display didn’t update the first time.
  • A reminder that won’t clear can point to a stored code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

What to Expect After Resetting

Once the reset takes, the checkup alert disappears and the countdown for the next oil-and-filter interval begins again. The cluster should return to its normal display, and the reminder won’t reappear until the next scheduled interval is reached. If it clears and then comes straight back, the reset didn’t save — run through the menu steps again, holding ENTER a little longer.

How Often to Reset It

Reset the oil-and-filter reminder every time you complete an oil-and-filter change, so the countdown always reflects the real service history. The Musso is a diesel, and diesel service intervals depend on how the truck is used — heavy towing, short trips or dusty conditions can shorten them. For the exact mileage-and-time interval that applies to your engine and usage, follow the schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than assuming a fixed figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a SsangYong Musso?

MENU > User Settings > Dashboard settings > Checkup alert > Engine oil and filter, then press and hold ENTER until the reminder clears.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done entirely from the dashboard menu using the cluster buttons. No diagnostic equipment is required.

Is the Grand Musso the same?

Yes — the long-bed Grand Musso uses the same instrument menu and the same reset procedure.

Why does the checkup alert keep coming back?

Usually because the reset didn’t save — make sure you held ENTER long enough on the ‘Engine oil and filter’ item, with the ignition ON and the engine OFF, then run through the menu again.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — do the oil-and-filter change first, then reset so the reminder counts down accurately to the next service.

Does resetting the reminder change the service interval?

No — it only restarts the countdown from zero. The interval length itself is set by the vehicle and your usage; resetting simply tells it the work is done.

If a service-related warning stays on after the oil change, decode the stored code on autodtcs.com.
