Disconnect and Reconnect the 12V Battery

These instructions apply to the Genesis GV60 (JW) 2022-2024. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 12, 2026

Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Genesis GV60 (JW, 2022–2024) — the electric crossover — for storage or work near the airbags is straightforward once you know it lives in the front service compartment. This is the 12 V battery only; never touch the orange high-voltage system.

Find the 12 V Battery First

The 12 V battery is in the front service compartment (under the front cover). The high-voltage drive battery is separate and sealed — do not touch any orange cabling. Note your presets and user settings first.

Disconnecting Safely

  1. Switch the car fully off (power off, key away) and open the front service compartment.
  2. Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
  3. Working near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.

Reconnecting and Re-initialising

Reconnect positive first, then negative. The GV60 then needs a few items relearned:

  • Power windows — re-initialise one-touch (see our window initialisation guide).
  • Powered tailgate may need re-initialising on first use.
  • Tyre pressure monitor — drive to re-store the pressures.
  • Re-enter the clock and presets.

If Something Isn’t Right Afterwards

  • Warning lights often clear after a short drive.
  • A persistent light stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
  • Fit a like-for-like 12 V battery — an AGM unit of the correct rating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the 12 V battery on a Genesis GV60?

In the front service compartment, under the front cover — separate from the high-voltage drive battery.

Is it safe to disconnect on an EV?

Yes — the 12 V battery is a normal low-voltage battery. Never touch the orange high-voltage cabling.

Which terminal first?

Negative (−) off first, reconnect it last.

What needs resetting afterwards?

Power windows, tailgate and the tyre-pressure monitor may need re-initialising, plus the clock.

To relearn the windows, see our GV60 power-window guide. If a warning light stays on, decode it on autodtcs.com.
