Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Rover 75 (RJ, 1998–2005) catches a lot of owners out — unlike most cars, the battery isn’t under the bonnet. On the 75 it’s in the boot.
Find the Battery First
The 12 V battery is in the boot (luggage compartment), on the right-hand side behind the side trim. Lift the boot carpet/trim to reach it. Note your radio security code before you start.
Disconnecting Safely
- Switch everything off and remove the key.
- Expose the battery in the boot and disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.
Reconnecting
Reconnect positive first, then negative. Afterwards:
- Re-enter the clock and radio code/presets.
- If a window loses one-touch, hold the switch fully up at the limit to relearn it.
- Warning lights settle after a short drive.
