The Hyundai i20 Mk3 (BC3, 2020–present) carries a noticeably bigger, sharper infotainment setup than the car it replaced — up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with optional built-in navigation and Bluelink connected services. When that screen freezes, goes black, or stops responding to taps while the audio carries on, a quick reboot almost always sorts it without touching your data.
The Infotainment System in This i20
Depending on trim, the i20 Mk3 has either an 8-inch Display Audio or the larger 10.25-inch AVN (navigation) unit with Bluelink telematics. Higher trims also offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is the most common trigger for a lock-up — a dropped wireless handshake can leave the projection screen hung. The Power / Volume knob beside the screen doubles as the reset control.
Soft Reset (No Data Loss)
- Keep the ignition on (engine running or ACC).
- Press and hold the Power / Volume knob for about 5–10 seconds until the display blanks.
- The Hyundai logo appears and the system restarts — let go and wait for the home screen.
On units fitted with a faceplate RESET pinhole, a quick press with a paperclip or pen tip performs the same reboot.
This Is Safe — Nothing Is Erased
A reboot only restarts the software. Your Bluelink login, saved navigation destinations, paired phones, presets and preferences all remain in place.
If It Stays Frozen
- If using wired CarPlay/Android Auto, unplug the USB cable; if using wireless, turn the phone’s Bluetooth off and on, or “forget” the car and re-pair.
- Switch the ignition off, lock the car, wait a couple of minutes, then restart.
- Install the latest software for your unit from update.hyundai.com — Hyundai updates have specifically addressed i20 wireless-projection and map-screen freezes.
- Still stuck? Disconnect the 12 V battery for ~15 minutes — see our i20 Mk3 battery guide.
Factory Reset (Erases Your Data)
Reserve this for persistent faults: Setup / Settings → General → Reset (or “Factory data reset”), then confirm. It clears Bluelink, paired devices, saved destinations and presets back to factory state, so you will need to set everything up again afterwards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the knob-hold reboot delete my Bluelink account?
No. A soft reset leaves Bluelink and your saved data untouched — only a factory reset signs you out.
My wireless CarPlay keeps freezing on the i20 — what fixes it?
Re-pair the phone, and most importantly install the current head-unit update from Hyundai; the wireless-projection patches resolve the recurring hangs.
Where is the reset button on the i20 Mk3?
It is the Power / Volume knob — hold it ~10 seconds. Some units also have a small reset pinhole near the knob.
Will my saved navigation destinations survive a reset?
A soft reset keeps them. A full factory reset removes saved destinations along with everything else.
The screen went black after a map update — is it bricked?
Rarely. Reboot with the knob first; if a map update half-completed, re-run it from update.hyundai.com.
If a warning light came on at the same time, decode it on autodtcs.com.
