These instructions apply to the BMW 5 Series Mk6 (F10/F11/F18) 2010-2017.

When the tyre-pressure warning comes on in your BMW 5 Series (F10/F11/F18, 2010–2017), it usually just means the system needs to store your current pressures as the new reference after a check, top-up or wheel change. On the F10 you reset it through the iDrive menu. This guide shows how.

When to Reset

  • After checking or adjusting the tyre pressures (including seasonal changes).
  • After changing one or more wheels or tyres.
  • After disconnecting or renewing the battery.

Set Your Pressures First

The reset stores whatever pressures are in the tyres at that moment, so they must be correct first. Set all four (cold) to the figures on the placard in the driver’s door aperture, using the laden column for a full load. Never reset with a tyre already low.

How to Reset the F10 TPMS via iDrive

  1. Make sure all four tyres are at the correct cold pressure.
  2. Turn the ignition on (engine can be running for the drive afterwards).
  3. On the iDrive controller, open the menu and select “SETTINGS”.
  4. Select “Vehicle status”, then “Tyre pressure monitoring”.
  5. Select “Reset” from the menu and confirm. (On the Flat Tyre Monitor system, choose “Perform reset” / “Set tyre pressures”.)
  6. Drive off — the system learns the new pressures over the next few miles.

Light Won’t Go Out? Work Through This

  • A tyre is genuinely low: the system is doing its job — find and fix the leak, re-inflate, then reset.
  • Reset not driven in: after selecting Reset you must drive for the system to relearn — give it a continuous run.
  • Warning returns at speed only: a real slow puncture often shows up under load — check the pressures again cold.
  • Persistent fault with correct pressures: on cars with sensors, a flat sensor battery can trigger it — look up any stored code on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the TPMS reset on a 5 Series F10?

In iDrive: SETTINGS → Vehicle status → Tyre pressure monitoring → Reset, then drive to relearn.

Does the F10 have sensors in the wheels?

Early cars use the Flat Tyre Monitor (indirect, ABS-based); later/optioned cars have the Tyre Pressure Monitor with sensors. Both reset from the same iDrive menu and then relearn by driving.

Why does the light come back a few days later?

Either a tyre is slowly losing air, or it was a little low when you reset. Re-check all four cold pressures and reset again.

Do I need to reset after just topping up the air?

Yes — any pressure change shifts the reference, so reset after any adjustment.

After tyre or seasonal-wheel work it is worth confirming the service reminder is clear — see our BMW 5 Series service indicator reset guide.
