Citroen C3 Mk2 (2009–2016) models with Stop & Start switch the engine off at a standstill to save fuel. If you would rather keep the engine running — in heavy traffic, or while working on the car — you can switch the system off with one button.
How to turn off Stop & Start on a Citroen C3 (2009–2016)
- With the engine running, press the Stop & Start (“ECO OFF”) button, usually on the dashboard or centre console.
- The warning light in the button or cluster illuminates to show the system is now switched off.
- The engine will no longer cut out when you come to a stop.
The setting is not permanent — Stop & Start switches itself back on each time you restart the car, so press the button again at the start of any journey where you want it disabled.

Does turning off Stop & Start harm the C3?
No. It simply keeps the engine running at a standstill, exactly as an older car would. It is safe to leave on or off.
Why won’t my C3 auto-stop the engine?
Stop & Start only works when conditions are met — the battery must be well charged and the cabin at temperature. A tired 12 V battery is the most common reason it stops working.
