After you change a tyre’s pressure or swap a wheel on your Cupra Leon (KL, 2020–present), you store the new pressures as the system’s reference. It’s done in the infotainment menu (or a TPMS button on some cars), not with a tool.

The tyre-pressure warning on the Leon is not a fault in itself — it is the car telling you that at least one tyre no longer matches the reference it has stored. That happens for the most ordinary reasons: a cold snap overnight, a slow drop over a few weeks, a top-up at the air line, or a wheel swap. Once you have set the correct cold pressures, storing them again teaches the car its new “normal” and the amber tyre symbol goes out. Nothing needs to go to a garage for this.
How It Works on This Car
The Leon hatch and Sportstourer use an indirect monitoring system. Instead of a pressure sensor sealed inside each wheel, it watches how fast each wheel turns through the ABS sensors. A tyre that is losing air sits a little lower, rolls with a slightly smaller radius, and spins fractionally faster than the others — and the system flags that difference. Because it judges everything against a learned baseline rather than an absolute pressure, it has to be told what “correct” looks like. That is exactly why you store the pressures after inflating, rather than waiting for the light to clear by itself.
Before You Begin
- Set the pressures cold — before driving, or after the car has stood for a couple of hours. Warm tyres read high and will give you a false baseline.
- Use the figures on the driver’s door-pillar label (or inside the fuel flap), matching the load column you are running.
- Check and correct all four corners, not just the one that looks soft.
- Only store once every tyre is at its target — you are saving a snapshot of all four.
- Have the ignition on for the menu steps; the engine does not need to be running.

Storing via the Menu
- With pressures set, switch the ignition on.
- Open ‘Vehicle’ / ‘Settings’ on the touchscreen.
- Choose ‘Tyres’ → ‘Store tyre pressures’ (SET) and confirm.

If a physical TPMS button is fitted, set the pressures, ignition on, then hold the button until it confirms.
If the Light Won’t Clear or Won’t Stay Off
- Re-check every corner with a gauge. One tyre a few psi under drags the whole system down — the warning reacts to the odd wheel, not the average.
- Cold mornings. Pressure falls roughly 1–2 psi for every 10 °C drop, so a tyre set on a mild day can dip below threshold overnight. Top up and re-store.
- You skipped the store step. Simply inflating does not clear an indirect system — you must save the new baseline afterwards.
- After a wheel change or tyre rotation. Different tread depths change rolling radius, so always re-store once the wheels are back on.
- Space-saver or a different-size spare fitted. A skinny spare rolls at a different speed and can hold the light on until the full-size wheel is back.
- A slow puncture. If the light returns within a day or two of storing, suspect a nail or a leaking valve rather than the system — have the tyre checked.
- Persistent warning with correct pressures. A wheel-speed/ABS sensor fault can mimic a low tyre; if it will not clear after a careful store, get the codes read.
After the Reset
Once you confirm the store, the amber tyre symbol should go out within a short drive as the system relearns each wheel’s rolling speed. It stays off for the trip and beyond, as long as the pressures hold. If it flashes and then stays on later, that is the system reporting a genuine loss — check the tyres rather than assuming the reset failed.

Yes, and that order matters. The store step captures whatever pressures are in the tyres at that moment, so if you save while a tyre is still low you simply teach the car a wrong reference. Inflate every corner to the correct cold figure first, then run the store. Doing it the other way round is the most common reason the light comes straight back.
Does the Leon have sensors inside the wheels?
Most versions use the indirect system, which reads wheel speed through the ABS sensors rather than a pressure sensor in each wheel. That is why there is a store function at all — the car learns a baseline instead of reading an exact psi. It also means the dash cannot always show a live per-tyre pressure; check with a gauge if in doubt.
How long until the warning goes out?
After you confirm the store it usually clears within a few minutes of normal driving, once the system has sampled each wheel at road speed. If it has not gone out after a short drive, re-check that all four pressures are correct and that you actually confirmed the SET, then store once more.
