Whether you’re changing the 12 V battery or working near the airbags, disconnecting it safely on the Daihatsu Cuore (L276) takes a couple of precautions. The battery is in the engine compartment, and a short wait before and after protects the car’s electronics and pyrotechnic parts.

Disconnecting the battery

  1. First, make sure you have the radio security code to hand — disconnecting power can lock the audio system until the code is re-entered.
  2. Switch the ignition off and remove the key. Wait one minute before touching the battery so the control units power down fully.
  3. Open the hood and find the battery in the engine compartment (right-hand side). Slacken the clamp nut on the negative (−) terminal first and lift the lead clear.
  4. If you’re removing the battery, undo the positive (+) terminal and the hold-down clamp, then lift the battery out keeping it upright.
  5. If you’ll be working on airbags or seat-belt pretensioners, wait a further minute after disconnecting before starting that work.

Reconnecting the battery

  1. Refit the battery, then connect the positive (+) terminal first and the negative (−) terminal last. Tighten both clamps so they can’t move.
  2. Switch the ignition on and reset the clock (date and time).
  3. Re-enter the radio code if prompted, then re-store your radio presets and any personal settings.
  4. Start the engine and check that no warning lights stay on. A short drive lets everything re-sync.

There’s no electronic throttle or window re-learn needed on this generation of Cuore — once the clock and radio are set, the car is ready to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which terminal do I disconnect first?

Always the negative (−) terminal first when disconnecting, and the negative last when reconnecting. That order prevents accidental short circuits against the bodywork.

Will I lose my radio and clock settings?

Yes. Cutting the 12 V supply clears the clock and radio presets, and may ask for the audio security code. Have the code before you start and note your presets.

How long should I wait after switching off?

About one minute before disconnecting, and a further minute before working on airbags or pretensioners, so the systems power down safely.
