These instructions apply to the Ford F-150 Mk11 (P2) 2004-2008.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
A flat 12 V battery will stop a 2004–2008 Ford F-150 cranking. Jump it in order and ground the last clamp to bare engine metal, away from the battery. This is the US-market procedure.
- Park a 12 V donor close but not touching; both parking brakes on, both ignitions off.
- Red (+) to the F-150’s positive (+), then to the donor’s positive (+).
- Black (−) to the donor’s negative (−), then to bare unpainted metal on the F-150’s engine, away from the battery and fuel system — not the dead battery’s negative post.
- Run both engines about 3 minutes, then start the F-150. Remove the cables in the exact reverse order (ground first).
FAQ
Where does the negative clamp go?
Bare engine metal away from the battery — never the fuel lines, intake, or the dead battery’s negative post.
Anything to do afterward?
Let it idle a few minutes so the computer relearns idle; the clock and presets will also need resetting if the battery went fully flat.
Can I push-start it?
No — the automatic can’t be push-started. Use cables or a jump pack.
If your F-150 stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
