After an oil-and-filter change on your Infiniti Q30 (H15, 2015–2019), the service indicator needs resetting so the maintenance countdown starts again. The Q30 shares its Mercedes-derived service menu, so you reset it from the steering-wheel buttons — no tool needed.

The Q30 was built on a shared platform with Mercedes-Benz, and it inherited the same style of service-reminder system — often referred to as an ASSYST-type maintenance computer. Rather than a simple mileage light, it runs a countdown to the next service and displays it as a spanner symbol with a “Service” message and, usually, the distance or days remaining. When that countdown reaches zero the reminder appears. It is a maintenance prompt, not a fault: nothing is wrong with the car, it simply wants its scheduled service, after which the counter is restarted from the dashboard menu.

What the Service Reminder Means

The Q30’s maintenance computer tracks both distance driven and time elapsed, and it counts down toward the service that’s due next. As you approach the interval it may show the days or miles remaining; once it’s reached, the spanner and service message stay on at start-up until you reset. Because the system logs the type of service performed, its menu asks you to confirm a full service and the oil specification — that’s how it schedules the following interval correctly. It doesn’t sense oil condition on its own, so completing the work and running the reset is what clears it.

Getting Ready

  • Do the oil and filter change first — resetting only clears the reminder.
  • Park safely on level ground and apply the parking brake.
  • Ignition on, engine off — you work through the cluster menu with the car switched on but not running.
  • No tools needed — everything is done from the steering-wheel and cluster controls.
  • Know the oil grade you used — the menu asks you to confirm the specification.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Turn the ignition on (engine off).
  2. Press and hold the two cluster buttons together until the service menu appears, then release.
  3. Scroll and select ‘MAINTENANCE’, confirm.
  4. Select ‘FULL SERVICE’, confirm, then ‘CONFIRM FULL SERVICE’.
  5. Select the oil specification you used, confirm.
  6. Select ‘YES’, then ‘CONFIRM’ — the procedure is complete.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Hold both buttons until the service menu actually appears — a brief tap won’t open it.
  • Make sure the ignition is fully on with the engine off; if the display is asleep the menu won’t respond.
  • Work through each confirmation — the menu has several steps, and leaving it partway through means the reset doesn’t register.
  • Cycle the ignition and repeat if the reminder is still there: switch off, switch back on, and step through the menu again.
  • A service light that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

What Happens Next

Once you confirm the final step, the maintenance computer restarts its countdown and the spanner message clears from the display. Next time you switch on, the cluster should show the full interval remaining again rather than the service prompt. Because you told it a full service was done and confirmed the oil grade, the next reminder will be scheduled from that point.

How Often It Comes Up

Reset the indicator once after each completed service. The Q30’s countdown is set by both distance and time, so it can trigger from months passing even on a low-mileage car. For the exact interval your car is set to, follow the schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than assuming a fixed figure — it can differ by engine and market.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on an Infiniti Q30?

Turn the ignition on, hold the two cluster buttons to open the service menu, then choose MAINTENANCE, then FULL SERVICE, confirm the oil specification, and work through the YES and CONFIRM prompts.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done entirely from the dashboard service menu using the cluster buttons. Nothing is plugged into the diagnostic socket.

Why does it ask for an oil specification?

The Mercedes-style maintenance system records the oil grade so it can schedule the next service interval correctly for the oil you actually used.

What if I don’t know exactly which oil was used?

Select the specification that matches the oil that went in; if you had the service done and aren’t sure, check the invoice or the container. Confirming the correct grade keeps the next interval accurate.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — the indicator counts down to the next service, so you reset once the work is finished to start a fresh, accurate interval.

The menu won’t open when I press the buttons — why?

Make sure the ignition is fully on with the engine off, then press and hold both cluster buttons together rather than tapping them. If the display was asleep, wake it first, then try again.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
