Reset the Tyre Pressure Warning Light

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 2, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Kia Sorento Mk2 (XM) 2009-2014.

The tyre-pressure warning light comes on when the monitor detects low pressure, and it needs resetting whenever you adjust the pressures or fit different wheels or tyres. On this Sorento there is no reset button: you set the correct pressures, then drive so the system relearns them.

  1. Set every tyre to the correct cold pressure shown on the placard in the driver’s door opening.
  2. Turn the ignition on and start the vehicle.
  3. Drive the vehicle for about 20 minutes so the system can relearn the new pressures.
  4. The tyre-pressure warning light goes out once the system has updated.

Good to know

Always set the pressures correctly before you drive to reset, because the system learns whatever it reads. If the pressures are wrong when you set off, that is what the monitor will treat as normal.

If the warning light stays on after a proper drive, one tyre is still low or a wheel sensor may be faulty and need checking. A flashing tyre-pressure light, rather than a steady one, usually points to a sensor fault rather than simply low pressure.

FAQ

How do I reset the Sorento tyre pressure light?

Set all four tyres to the correct cold pressure from the door-opening placard, then drive for about 20 minutes. The light goes out on its own once the system has relearned the pressures.

Is there a reset button?

No. This Sorento has no tyre-pressure reset button. The system relearns the pressures automatically as you drive, so there is nothing to press.

Why does the light stay on after driving?

Usually because one tyre is still below the correct pressure, so recheck them all cold against the placard. If they are all correct and the light remains, a wheel sensor may be faulty and need checking.

Why is the light flashing instead of staying on?

A flashing tyre-pressure light normally indicates a sensor fault rather than simply low pressure, and it is worth having the wheel sensors checked.
