When the spanner or a “Service Required” message appears on your Kia Sportage Mk5 (NQ5, 2021–present) — petrol, mild-hybrid, full-hybrid or plug-in — the service interval has elapsed. You can clear it from the Sportage’s digital cluster in a few seconds. Do the service first, then follow the steps.
Reset Only After the Service
The interval is a distance/time counter, not an oil sensor — clearing it early just hides the reminder. Reset only once the oil and filters are done.
How to Reset the Sportage Mk5 Service Indicator
- Turn the ignition on (on hybrids, power up without your foot on the brake).
- Press the ‘MENU’ button on the steering wheel and scroll to ‘User Setting’; press OK.
- Select ‘Cluster’ (or ‘Convenience’, depending on software).
- Select ‘Service Interval’, then ‘Reset’.
- The interval returns to full and the spanner clears.
If the Reminder Returns
- It comes back at start-up — the reset wasn’t confirmed; repeat to the ‘Reset’ step.
- A different warning is on — that’s a fault, not the service timer, and won’t clear this way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the engine need to run to reset the Sportage service light?
No — ignition/power on is enough. On hybrids you don’t even need the system “ready”.
Where is the Service Interval option?
In the cluster’s User Setting menu, under Cluster or Convenience depending on the software version.
Will resetting change anything else?
No — it only restarts the service-interval countdown.
The light stays on after resetting — why?
If it’s the spanner, the reset wasn’t confirmed. A different warning is a fault needing diagnosis.
If a warning light appeared with the service message, look it up on autodtcs.com. After battery work, see our Sportage Mk5 battery guide.
