Put the Wipers in Service Position

These instructions apply to the Lynk & Co 01 (2017-2024).

To change the wiper blades on your Lynk & Co 01 (2017–2024), the arms first need to be lifted into their service position. You activate it from the central display so the wipers move clear of the bonnet.

The service position — you may also hear it called the maintenance or winter position — lifts the wiper arms high off the glass and holds them there so you can work at the base of the windscreen. You use it whenever the arms need to be out of their normal parked spot: fitting new blades, standing the arms up before a frost so the rubber doesn’t freeze to the screen and tear when you first wipe, or clearing leaves and grit from the scuttle. On the Lynk & Co 01 there’s no lever under the bonnet and no trick with the stalk — the arms are commanded up through a setting in the car’s central display. It’s a normal, built-in feature rather than a warning of anything wrong.

Why There’s a Service Position

At rest, the 01 parks its wipers low against the bottom of the windscreen, where the arms sit partly beneath the trailing edge of the bonnet. That neat parked spot is what makes them awkward to service by hand. Pull an arm straight up from park and it catches the bonnet lip before it reaches a useful angle — force it and you risk bending the arm, straining the linkage, or chipping the paint along the bonnet edge. Putting the car into service mode first drives the arms up and away from that pinch point so they stand clear of the panel, giving you room to change the blades without fighting anything.

Getting Ready

  • Keep the bonnet closed — the arms swing up high into the space above the scuttle, so the panel must be down first.
  • The vehicle should be stationary, wipers off, and the engine off before you open the setting.
  • Free any frozen blades first. If the rubber is iced to the glass, clear it before you trigger the arms, or the motor labours against a stuck blade.
  • Have the new blades ready so the swap is quick once the arms are raised.
  • Work one arm at a time rather than trying to steady both together.

Moving the Wipers to Service Position

  1. On the central display, scroll to ‘Settings’.
  2. Select ‘CAR’ and find the wiper/service section.
  3. Activate service mode — the wipers move up clear of the bonnet.
  4. Lift the arms and swap the blades.

Returning the Wipers to Normal

Once the new blades are on, fold each arm gently back down onto the glass first — never let one snap back on its own, as an unsupported arm can crack the screen. Then exit service mode on the display, or simply operate the wipers, and the arms return to their normal parked spot under the scuttle. Give the glass a quick wet sweep to check the blades sit flat and wipe cleanly across their full travel before you set off.

If It Doesn’t Work

  • The car isn’t stationary. Bring it to a complete stop, with the engine off, before opening the menu.
  • The wipers were still running. Switch them fully off, then select service mode again.
  • The bonnet is open. Many cars block the raised position while the bonnet is up as a safety interlock — close it and retry.
  • The blades are frozen down. Ice locking the arms to the glass can stall the movement; clear it first.
  • You’re on the wrong menu. The control lives under ‘Settings’ then ‘CAR’ in the wiper/service section — not the general wiper on/off screen.
  • Nothing moved. Wake the display, confirm the car is stationary with the engine off, and activate service mode once more.

Changing the Blades — What to Expect

With the arms raised, hold the arm steady with one hand while you release the old blade so it can’t spring down and strike the glass. Most blades use a simple clip or hook fitting: press the release tab, slide the old blade off the arm, and clip the new one on until it locks. If you’re unsure which length or fitting your car takes, check the handbook or measure the old blades before buying. When the new blade is seated, lower the arm slowly back to the glass rather than letting it drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I put the Lynk & Co 01 wipers in service position?

With the car stopped and the wipers and engine off, open the central display, go to ‘Settings’, then ‘CAR’, and activate wiper service mode in the wiper/service section. The arms rise clear of the bonnet.

Why can’t I just lift the arms from park?

Parked, the arms sit under the bonnet lip and won’t swing up far enough. Forcing one risks bending the arm or chipping the paint. Service mode raises them clear and protects the linkage.

Do I need any tools?

No. Putting the wipers into service position is entirely a display setting — no tools involved. You’ll only need the replacement blades for the swap itself.

How do I get the wipers back down?

Fold the arms back onto the glass, then exit service mode on the display or operate the wipers. They return to their normal parked position on their own.

Why won’t it enter the service position?

Usually the car isn’t fully stopped, the wipers or engine are still on, or the bonnet is open. Make sure the car is stationary with everything off and the bonnet closed, then reselect the option.

Does using service mode reset anything?

No. It only moves the wiper arms to a raised angle for maintenance. It doesn’t clear service reminders or change other settings — the wipers simply return to normal when you exit the mode.

If a wiper-related warning appears afterwards, you can look up what the fault code means on autodtcs.com.
