These instructions apply to the MG MG3 Mk2 2024-present.

The all-new MG3 (2024–present), including the MG3 Hybrid+, clears its service reminder straight from the driver’s display — no dealer visit or tool needed. Open the instrument-display menu to Settings → Next service and long-press the OK button on the steering wheel. It takes about ten seconds once the work is done.
What the Service Message Means
The second-generation MG3 shows the mileage remaining until the next scheduled service in the instrument display, and a spanner reminder as that point approaches. It is a maintenance reminder, not a fault. Resetting only restarts the counter — it does not service the car — so clear it once the work has actually been carried out.
How to Reset the Service Indicator on the New MG3
- Switch the ignition on. Press START without your foot on the brake (or with the car running) so the instrument display is awake.
- Open the display menu. Use the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to open the instrument-display menu and scroll to Settings.
- Select “Next service”. It shows the mileage remaining until the next scheduled service.
- Press and hold the OK button on the steering wheel until the service reminder resets.
- Release OK. The display returns to the full service interval and the spanner reminder clears.
⚠️ Reset it only after the service is done. MG intends the display to be reset by an MG dealer when they carry out the work. Doing it yourself is fine once you or an independent garage have completed the maintenance — clearing it without servicing the car just hides a genuine reminder.
If the Reminder Won’t Clear
- Make sure you are on the Next service screen under Settings — a long press elsewhere (such as Trip Computer) resets that data instead.
- Hold OK for longer. A brief press only selects; the reset needs a genuine long press of a few seconds.
- Ignition must be on. The reset works with the ignition on or the car running, but not with everything asleep.
- A spanner light with a stored fault code is different from a service reminder — look the code up on autodtcs.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reset the service light on the new MG3?
Switch the ignition on, use the steering-wheel arrows to reach Settings → Next service in the instrument display, then press and hold OK until it resets.
Is the MG3 Hybrid+ reset the same?
Yes. The petrol and Hybrid+ versions of the 2024-onwards MG3 share the same instrument display and the same long-press-OK service reset.
Do I need a dealer or a diagnostic tool?
No — unlike the previous MG3 (2011–2023), which needed a diagnostic tool, the all-new MG3 lets you reset the service reminder yourself from the driver’s display. MG still expects the dealer to reset it after a service, but the owner method works.
Should I reset it without servicing the car?
No. The reset only clears the counter; it does not carry out any maintenance, so you would just be hiding a due reminder and losing track of when the service is actually needed.
The spanner light is still on after resetting — why?
Check you held OK on the Next service screen for long enough. If a warning light stays on with a stored fault code, that is a separate issue — decode it on autodtcs.com.
