If a Mitsubishi L200 remote has lost its pairing — after a battery change hasn’t fixed it, or you have a replacement fob — it can be re-programmed with an ignition-key sequence. All the remotes you use must be programmed together, and this generation accepts a maximum of two.
How to programme a key fob remote
- First check the doors lock and unlock normally with the key blade, so you know the central locking itself is working.
- Sit in the car with all the remotes you want to programme to hand (maximum of two — they must all be done in this one session).
- Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition switch ON and OFF three times. The door locks will cycle to confirm you are in programming mode.
- Press any button on the first remote. Then, within 10 seconds, press any button on it twice. The door locks will operate again — that remote is now programmed.
- Repeat step 4 for the second remote, if you have one.
- Remove the key from the ignition and close the windows to exit programming mode.
Good to know
Programming mode exits on its own if no remote is programmed within about 1 minute, if the two-remote limit is reached, or if the ignition is turned to the start position. If the locks do not cycle when you turn the ignition on and off, the car may need a dealer with Mitsubishi diagnostic equipment (MUT-II) to pair the remote.
Frequently asked questions
How many remotes can the L200 hold?
Two. Because programming a new one wipes any not present, you must programme all the remotes you want to use in the same session.
My remote still won’t work after a new battery — do I need to programme it?
Try the ignition-cycle programming above first. If the locks won’t enter programming mode, the fob or receiver may need a dealer’s diagnostic tool to pair.
