Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your NIO EL7 (2022–2024) — the electric SUV — for storage or before work near the airbags is the low-voltage battery only. The high-voltage drive battery is sealed and must never be touched. The 12 V battery is in the front service compartment.
Find the 12 V Battery First
The 12 V battery is in the front service compartment (under the front lid/cover). Note your settings first — most are tied to your NIO account.
High voltage: never touch the orange high-voltage cabling. This procedure is only the 12 V battery.
Disconnecting Safely
- Power the car fully off and wait a couple of minutes.
- Open the front service compartment to reach the battery.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.
Reconnecting and Re-initialising
Reconnect positive first, then negative. The car then needs a few items settled:
- Power windows — re-initialise one-touch (hold the switch at the limits).
- Tyre pressure monitor — drive to re-store the pressures.
- Allow the car a minute to wake fully before driving.
If Something Isn’t Right Afterwards
- Warning messages often clear after a short drive.
- A persistent alert stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
- Fit a like-for-like 12 V battery of the correct type and rating.
