Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Peugeot 3008 Mk2 (P84) 2016-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

If the remote on your Peugeot 3008 Mk2 (P84, 2016–present) has gone weak — you have to be close to lock or unlock, or a “key battery low” message has appeared — the fob’s coin cell needs renewing. This guide shows how, with no programming required. Check which key you have first, because the 3008 uses two different cells.

Which Battery Your Key Takes

  • Keyless-entry “smart” key (the one you keep in your pocket): CR2032 3 V cell.
  • Standard flip key (blade folds out, you press a button to flip it): CR1620 3 V cell.

If you’re not sure, open the fob and read the marking on the old cell.

How to Replace the 3008 Mk2 Key Battery

  1. Smart key: slide out the mechanical emergency blade, then use a small screwdriver in the slot/seam to split the case. Flip key: flip the blade out and prise the two halves apart at the seam.
  2. Use a small flat screwdriver to remove the button-cell cover.
  3. Lift out the old cell, noting which way up it sits.
  4. Fit the new cell the same way round (CR2032 for smart keys, CR1620 for flip keys).
  5. Refit the cover and click the case back together.
  6. Test lock/unlock from a normal distance.

Does It Need Programming?

No — renewing the coin cell does not affect the fob’s pairing, so the key keeps working straight away. A lost or broken key can only be ordered and coded by a Peugeot dealer — that part isn’t owner-doable.

If It Still Won’t Respond

Re-open the fob and check the cell orientation and clean contacts. With a non-keyless flip key, the system re-syncs as soon as you use the key in the lock or ignition. With a smart key, hold it against the START button to start if keyless entry is slow to pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the 3008 Mk2 key take?

The keyless smart key uses a CR2032; the standard flip key uses a CR1620. Check the old cell to be sure.

Will the car still start if the key battery is flat?

Yes. On keyless cars, hold the smart key against the START button to start. On flip-key cars, the key works in the ignition as normal.

Can I program a spare key myself?

No — Peugeot key coding needs the dealer system. Only the battery swap is owner-doable.

Do I need to reset anything after the swap?

No — the remote keeps its pairing. Just refit and test.
