Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Rover 45 (HH-R, 1999–2005) — for a new battery, winter storage, or work near the airbags — is a straightforward job. The battery is in the engine compartment.
Find the Battery First
The 12 V battery is in the engine compartment, in the usual front corner. Note your radio security code and preset stations before you start.
Disconnecting Safely
- Switch everything off and remove the key.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.
Reconnecting
Reconnect positive first, then negative. Afterwards:
- Re-enter the clock and radio code/presets.
- If a window loses one-touch, hold the switch fully up at the limit to relearn it.
- Warning lights settle after a short drive.
If Something Isn’t Right Afterwards
- Warning lights often clear after a short drive.
- A persistent light stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
- Fit a like-for-like battery of the correct size and rating.
