A “Service” or “Inspection” message on your Skoda Scala (NW1, 2019–present) means a maintenance interval has elapsed. You clear it yourself with the trip-reset button — no garage tool needed. Do the oil and filter change first.
The Scala uses the Volkswagen Group service-reminder system, which runs two independent counters: the oil-change service for the engine oil interval, and the inspection for the wider vehicle check. Either can be a fixed or a flexible “longlife” schedule, so the display may prompt one, the other, or both — each is reset the same way. It is a maintenance reminder, not a fault.
Before You Start
- Finish the service first — oil, filter and any scheduled items; resetting early just hides the reminder while the oil keeps ageing.
- Ignition on, engine off — the engine does not need to be running.
- No tools required — you only use the trip-reset button and the ignition.
How to Reset the Scala Service Indicator
- Turn the ignition off.
- Press and hold the 0.0 / trip-reset button on the wiper stalk or dash.
- Keeping it held, switch the ignition on, then release.
- The display asks ‘Reset oil change service?’ — press the button again to confirm.
- Repeat for the inspection counter if it’s shown separately.
Cars with the Virtual Cockpit can also reset via Settings → Service in the menu.
If the Reminder Returns
- It reappears at start-up — the confirmation wasn’t completed; run it again and be sure to press the button a second time at the prompt.
- You released the button too soon — hold it while you switch the ignition on, and only let go once the reset prompt appears.
- Only one counter cleared — the oil-change and inspection reminders are separate, so reset whichever is still showing.
- It’s a different symbol — that’s a fault, not the service timer, and the reset won’t clear it.
