Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Mk2 (AK) 2022-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

A weak key is the usual reason a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Mk2 (AK, 2022–present) stops locking from a distance or asks you to hold the fob to the start button. The S-Cross came with two key styles that take different batteries, so check which you have first.

Which Battery You Need

  • Keyless ‘smart’ fob (push-button start): CR2032.
  • Flip / blade key: CR1616.

Note the polarity of the old cell and fit the new one the same way.

Keyless Smart Fob (CR2032)

  1. Slide out the emergency key blade and use a screwdriver to remove the button-cell cover.
  2. Lift the transmitter from its holder and remove the old cell.
  3. Fit a new CR2032, observing the correct polarity.
  4. Refit the transmitter and the cover.

Flip Key (CR1616)

  1. Remove the small screw and lift off the key cover.
  2. Take the transmitter from its holder and separate the cases.
  3. Fit a new CR1616, correct polarity.
  4. Reassemble, refit the cover and screw.

Lock and unlock from a few metres to confirm.

Good to Know

Changing the battery never needs reprogramming. Programming an extra key needs Suzuki diagnostic equipment, but that’s separate. If keyless start fails, hold the fob against the start button as you press — the car reads the transponder directly.
