The stop-start system on a Fiat Talento (2016–2021) shuts the engine off at junctions to save fuel. In slow traffic, when manoeuvring a loaded van, or on a cold morning you can switch it off with one button — it’s a per-drive setting.
The Talento was Fiat’s badge-engineered version of the Renault Trafic III, built from 2016 until Fiat Professional withdrew it in 2021; it revived the ‘Talento’ name Fiat had last used on a small van in the early 1990s.
Turn Stop-Start Off

- With the van running, press the stop-start off button on the dashboard (an ‘A’ inside a circular arrow).
- ‘Start/stop deactivated’ appears and the warning light comes on.
- The engine now stays running at a stop until you switch it back on.
Press the button again to re-enable it.
Good to Know
- It re-enables every time you restart the van — there’s no permanent-off, so press it each drive.
- Even when on, it won’t auto-stop unless the engine is warm and the battery well charged — a weak battery is the usual reason it stops working on its own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Fiat Talento just a rebadged Renault Trafic?
Yes — the 2016–2021 Talento is Fiat’s version of the Renault Trafic III, sharing its running gear with the Nissan NV300 and Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro. Fiat dropped it in 2021 when it switched to the Stellantis (Peugeot-based) Scudo and Ducato range.
How do I turn off stop-start on a Fiat Talento?
Press the dashboard ‘A’-in-arrow button with the engine running — ‘Start/stop deactivated’ shows and the light comes on.
Does it stay off?
No — it resets to on every restart, so press the button again each drive.
Why has it stopped working by itself?
Usually a battery not holding enough charge, or the engine not fully warm — the system only auto-stops when conditions allow.
Is it the same as a Renault Trafic?
Yes — as a rebadged Renault Trafic it uses the same button, so deactivation is identical across the Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300 and Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro.
